got XP up at least
Glad you got XP up and it's working there at least. Hey I dug around a tad more and seems like a few posts at linksys address the fact the no drivers are provided by linksys for 64 bit OSes. Did you have 64bit Vista on? These posts offer links to 64bit drivers based on the chipset linksys is using, ...

unsure
Hey how far have you gotten? Can you see available networks or is there no linksys util to manage them coming up? The download for a vista driver is tiny at 81k. I wonder if you need to get their wireless management util separately. http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Download_C2&childp...

network card?
I've worked with older machines that were upgraded to XP and the hard drive was just not cutting it (poor performance) or are just having massive errors and about to crap out. Identify the manufacturer of the disk and pick up its diagnositics disk, or someone may suggest a good linux LiveCD to test ...

usb then
Cripes, I can't see one. Most sites get so generic you end up banging out model numbers at the manufacturer only to find out that PCMCIA listed on the reseller means CARDBUS. One I suggested above was only 11b, oops. Go for USB then or use slower 11b? Maybe velcro the usb bugger on the side or lid. ...

stupid question
Stupid question, but sometimes folks use the term PC card generically: Can the laptop use 32bit Cardbus (looks the same) or does it require 16bit PC card (laptop is older than 1998)? You're right I only see 1 PC card (16bit) around $30 shipped: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

change browser fonts or set them to defaults?
If only the browser looks cruddy/blurred out, have you changed the browser fonts within firefox or internet exploder? Maybe try a different font or click set to default. Change text/font size within the browser, an option off of view in the menu. Mine is set to Times New Roman size 16, probably the ...

open pc, verify Intel board and model number
Blue screen? Ugh, sorry. First can we verify that you are installing the correct driver by getting the specific Intel board model number. Your post says D84GL, did you mean D84 5 GL LY or something close? Crack it open and look for the number on the board, or run the intel board ID program: http://w...

alternate idea
I looked around all over using the sharp panel model number, and kept ending up with replacement pages for the panel itself. I don't know if a generic controller exists, perhaps with the laptop model number would pinpoint a site with the guts you need (LCD controller + Power transformers?). Laptop m...

check the warranty or diagnostics sections
The manufacturer's utils to wipe the disk should be located in the website's warranty/support/diagnostics sections. The util that does read tests and spits out an error code for return authorization is the same util that will usually low level write to the disk. Western Digital was WDDIAG, just veri...
