The 939 processors stay very expensive compared to AM2.
I would wait until April and than invest in a new Intel System.

Check if your bios version supports C2D!

I would recommend to buy a graphic Card for the money!

512MB memory is not very much!
I would upgrade memory, or build a whole Core2Duo System

I've installed the Zalman 9700CU nice performance and looks good!

Check out the Thermaltake Cases -> look nice and stay cool

I can recommend a Kingston 2GB Ram Kit, works fine on my Gigabyte DS4

For the new system:
Reset the bios, maybe that will help.
The CPU will definitely run on this board.

I had a similar problem and I changed the board on warranty, now the Sys runs perfect.

The screen looks nice

I would also recommend to test every single piece of hardware.

I would also take a Core2Duo, E6400 ~200€
Mobo: Gigabyte DS4 ~150€
Graphic: GeForce 8800GTS ~350€
and of course 2GB of memory.

This setup rocks!

I would recommend buying a cheap Socket A Mobo at eBay.

I would put in a 2nd GB of RAM, because Vista is hungry
