Re: Frequent shutdowns, I7-950, where to start?
Definitely power supply, a new one solved all problems. Other going back to Corsair.

Re: Frequent shutdowns, I7-950, where to start?
So much for that theory, it shut down twice this morning (after running for 2 days), once on the UPS, once off the UPS. I swapped out the 850w power supply for a (gulp) 400w that I had in an old PC. With 4 hungry drives was a bit worried that at power up I may lose it. It came up, voltages look norm...

Re: Frequent shutdowns, I7-950, where to start?
Well, much to my surprise, it has been running now about 3 hours on utility power not UPS.
Going to move it back and see if it fails again.
And it's a pretty nice UPS, not one of the cheap ones (APC RS 1500).

Frequent shutdowns, I7-950, where to start?
I have an Intel DX58S0 and i7-950, NOT overclocked, built about 18 months ago and has been rock solid. The last two boots after it was off and cold it has reset itself every few minutes. It runs for a while (increasingly longer each time), then reboots. There are no hardware errors in the bios, ther...

Re: D975XBX2, Raid, Velociraptors failing
There's a known problem with the velociraptors in RAID0 and the Intel ICH9R and 10R chipsets. I later found out there is also a known problem with the 8.9 version of Intel Matrix Storage manager, with drives going off line and degrading raid sets. Intel has acknowledged they are getting a lot of co...

Intel Raid on MB - where are configs? Port changes?
I have a D975XBX2 and am struggling with some raid issues. Is the config information in the controller itself, or a part of the drive? more specifically -- can I change ports on the drives, and reboot, to try to test? I have raid-1 configured on a volume (call it "A") on ports 0/1, and ano...

D975XBX2, Raid, Velociraptors failing
Have a D975XBX2 with quad Q6600, normally clocked, 4GB, generally works great even if a bit dated. Very stable, running Vista. I had a drive failure, and decided to add a pair of 300GB Velociraptors from WD as Raid-1 for system drive. First drive in pair, on port zero, keeps failing. No specific err...

Re: D975XBX2 - worth using still
One of the issues I did have was that I was unable to get 4GB of memory to work in a 4 X 1GB configuration. I've read various posts that it's better to get 2 X 2GB for some reason. A year ago when I first built this, I bought the system from an enthusiasts shop, and they had OCZ memory, I dont' rec...

Re: D975XBX2 - worth using still
Thanks. I found that CompUSA (which is still open here in S. Florida) had them. Not cheap exactly ($179), but off the shelf. I picked one up yesterday, and have built it and am finishing up an install. So got a Q6600 and swapped. I think that will work very nicely, I get a good boost on CS3 (the pri...

D975XBX2 - worth using still
I need a second PC for wife. I have a D975XBX2 with core-2 duo and am quite happy (after getting some firmware/raid issues worked out). I'm tempted to get the same board again so I basically have two systems with mostly same hardware, then any debugging is a bit easier. I'm looking for stability in ...

yep, this happened to me too. .... only an arctic cooling af8 operated at reduced rpm without pulsating. Interesting, so you think it is the fan itself making the noise in response to the motherboard changing the voltage? I was thinking about this overnight. Both in the bios hw management display a...

D975BXB2, Fan control, Clicking
Built a normal, not oc E6600 on D975BXB2 and have one annoying problem. At anything other than 0 or 100% fan speed for the front and rear fan (no third fan connected), when the fans are driven off the motherboard, there is a significant clicking noise. I am certain it is from the fans, I have discon...
