Re: dual channel performance question

Thats a good question. I don't think you would have a problem as long as you get another dual channel set...you might see some stability issues just as you would see by going 4x1gb instead of 2x2.. I would honestly recommend - if you really need more ram - just go with a new 2x2gb configuration and ...

I suppose Asus Maximus is my best bet...no SLI support but I guess I can live without it.

Re: Mobo w/ 1600/1333/1066/800 FSB support

The reason I wanted the whole range is because I have a 1066mhz Q6600 that I would initially install...but would like to have the option to get a 1600mhz dual core chip sometime in the future. so the asus maximus formula mobo fills that role but it doesn't support SLI....while I'm not sure If I will...

Mobo w/ 1600/1333/1066/800 FSB support

I noticed there are a few motherboards introduced that have 1600/1333/1066/800 mhz FSB support (Asus Maximus series) but are there any motherboards that support the full range of FSB and have SLI copabilities? I'm curious because I think my motherboard is faulty (I havent narrowed down the problem q...

Re: 3870 X2 Vs 8800 GTS G92 SLI

It's just a simple manner of $$/performance an 8800gts alone is ~350 bucks not as good as the 3870 alone which is ~450 bucks which isn't nearly as good as 2 8800gts which is ~700 bucks I typically stick with one videocard setups but I gotta admit that the 8800gt in SLI config is a really good price/...

Re: 320 gig 16MB cache 7200RPM HDD $110

WD, Seagate, Samsung, Maxtor, ...all good companies in my opinion. I personally only buy WD because they are usually the cheapest. You can easily get a 500gb HD for only 100 bucks nowadays online.

Re: 8800GTX vs. 8800GTX Superclocked

Overclocking aside the superclocked editions are typically not worth the extra performance...you definitely wont see a very big difference in newer games like Crysis and Bioshock (maybe 1-3 fps is my guess)

Re: Upgrade CPU or GPU!

Since you already have a nice video card..I think your best bet is to get another XFX 8800gt to go along with it...It sounds like you were ready to burn some more money. I noticed the P5K Deluxe/WiFi-AP does not have SLI support so you would have to get a new mobo as well, but as far as cost/perform...

Re: How reliable are the results from hcidesign's Memtest?

I'm pretty sure Memtest+ is more widely used...but I suppose people have their preference for everything.

I have previous experience with memtest+ when I was diagnosing some bad samsung pc-2100 ddr ram and it was able to figure out which stick was going bad.

I'm waiting on the Yorkfield quad processor. should be a huge improvement....also...this allows time to see what AMD has to offer too. There isn't a need for quad-processing at this very moment.

I think that's terrible advice.

qx6700, 2.66ghz, 2 x4mb cache --> $970
q6600, 2.4ghz, 2 x 4mb cache --> $541

have fun wasting $429 on 266mhz...and even more if you seriously plan on getting the qx6800

also 3200+ is the highest that socket will go unless you overclock since Socket A ranged from 600 MHz (Duron) to 2333 MHz (Athlon XP 3200+)

You should have Socket A. Which has been discontinued and replaced

You will need to have Socket AM2 for dual-core sadly.

I'm loving the variety nVidia is giving us these days. I will be wanting a new rig in fall and I really dont want to spend more than 300 bucks...but I suppose I'll have options for some pretty high end stuff.

Athlon XP or Athlon XP-M?

I have an HP ze4400 laptop that says it has a 2400+ athlon xp on it...does that mean it is a mobile version of the athlon xp 2400+ or can desktop cpus be used in laptops sometimes?
