Re: EVGA OC Scanner 1.1.0 Released
Just picked up a bargain EVGA GT 430 card, and discovered this software is now up to version 1.6.1. What I can't find is a place that interprets the results of the benchmark test. I got a "Score 667 Points (222FPS)". Is that reasonable with my ageing setup?

Re: Best CPU upgrade for Intel D975XBX2
Thanks to everyone for their input. You have convinced me this is not a worthwhile endeavor. I could use a bit more speed processing video, and just picked up a bargain on a new video card and thought I would look at the CPU as well. The prices of the Q6600 and Q6700 make it less interesting though ...

Best CPU upgrade for Intel D975XBX2
I am thinking of upgrading the CPU on my Intel D975XBX2 MOBO from the Intel Core 2 Duo E6400. Would like recommendations for the best trade-off between value and performance for the LGA775 socket. Also, will I be limited to CPUs with a 1066 MHz system bus? Thanks for your input!

Re: Intel D975XBX2 BIOS Update 2836
Thanks, IRQ Conflict, for the suggestions, but still wouldn't run from safe mode. And I am pretty sure that I have not disabled driver signing for anything. I tried an older version of express bios update, and it was prepared to run, so it must have something to do with the new version. Guess I can ...

Re: Intel D975XBX2 BIOS Update 2836

Re: BX2, AHCI, and Vista
You definitely should use F6 to install the AHCI/RAID driver before installing Vista. However, if you didn't and want to switch from IDE without a reinstall it is possible with a little work. See my June 22 post in this thread: http://forums.legitreviews.com/about10253.html DaddyRabbit notes a short...

Re: getting E SATA to work on d975xbx2
Sounds like you got the version of bios that you have to put on a floppy or cd. There are four versions of the bios, but the easiest to use is the Express Bios Update -- BX97520J.86A.2777.EB.EXE -- that is here http://downloadcenter.intel.com/download.aspx?url=/13825/eng/BX97520J.86A.2777.EB.EXE&...

Re: getting E SATA to work on d975xbx2
If the e-sata drive is working, you probably don't need the Marvell driver, which is to set up the Marvell controller for the three blue/one red SATA ports for RAID. Have you checked out the e-sata drive on device manager to see what it says about the driver? You also might want to try updating the ...

First, make sure that the secondary SATA controller is enabled in bios.

Re: ubuntu
I installed Ubuntu on my Vista 32 system because HP doesn't support my old HP ScanJet 6200C. I had struggled to get it working with a couple of other Linux distros with no luck, but had no problem with Ubuntu. Also was able to set up the dual boot with Vista from the Ubuntu GRUB. I don't use it much...

Re: D975Xbx2 - Lowering CPU Voltage
Do you have the Intel Desktop Control Center installed? (Here is link for the Vista 32 version - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=2578&DwnldID=11690&strOSs=164&OSFullName=Windows%20Vista*%2032&lang=eng ) This will allow you to change the temperatur...

PassMark Software's Performance Index v1.1 that is included with the Intel Desktop Control Center doesn't appear to include any baselines to use for comparison. Does anyone know where to download baselines for it?

power pin on D975XBX2 front panel header
Should there be anything connected to the power pin (#9) on the Bad Axe 2 front panel header? I had no leads from my Ultra X-Blaster case that are not connected somewhere, but wonder if this could have anything to do with my HDD LED not functioning. I have checked the LED and it is good.

Footnote: Unintended consequences While my HDD is spinning away as AHCI, evidently the change from IDE caused Vista to think I had changed the boot drive, and I had to reactivate. I have the OEM version so had to go the telephone call route. The nice lady couldn't explain to me why this was necessar...

After some searching, I found that it is possible to switch from IDE to AHCI without a reinstall of Vista. One suggestion involved a registry change to reactivate the ACHI driver, another installed the Intel driver directly from the device manager. The method I used came from a suggestion on MS Vist...

Single SATA
I understand the fastest access would be with it configured as AHCI (advanced Host Controller Interface), but this has to be set up before you install the OS. If you try to switch from IDE to AHCI after the OS is installed, it will not boot. I am not sure how much speed you gain by this, but I wasn'...

IBM I-series useful?
I have a 2621-46U Thinkpad that died after I spilled water on the keyboard. All in all it is pretty much obsolete, but has a good display and wondered if there was any potential to strip it down and use the chassis for a new build.

LED good, still doesn't respond
As suggested by BlueMagic and Dandruff, I checked my LED and it is good, but still doesn't light up with HDD activity. The drive bios are set up as follows: Automatic Mode: enable ATA/IDE Mode - native Configure SATA as - IDE S.M.A.R.T. - enable The drive is attached to SATA Port 0 and is recognized...
