didn't work -
my monitor is default set to 60hz analog - however, i cant set it when it's already in digital mode (b/c i cant get to the OCD unless there's a signal)

hmmm... so it's an issue with the frequency rates?

I've been getting the same problem and i have a Radeon 9600 and an Acer 22" LCD

i'll try your method and see if it works
