Re: Sound cards of today
I'm not an expert by any stretch, the only technical acoustics experience I have is helping design a soundproofed room where I work. I do however own an x-fi platinum fatality (I use the remote to control my computer, another nice touch). I've done a fair amount of recording with it recording my fri...

Re: WTF . . . help me please
That is definitely a good idea, so far the only precautions I take against static is touching the metal frame of the case before working. If this ends up costing me a fairly expensive motherboard I am going to seriously consider further protection in the future.

Re: WTF . . . help me please
Unfortunately I think I managed to fry something, which sucks because I'm very careful when I work inside my computer and I didn't even touch anything deep down in the case (just swapping some power connections in the vicinity of my HD rack). I put the stock fans back in and it still won't post so I...

WTF . . . help me please
So I have a relatively new computer (~6 months) I built for myself, it runs like a dream, it's perfect, etc. I decide to upgrade the 3 stock 120mm case fans to get it to run cooler. I buy 3 silverstone FM121 fans and swap them out for the 3 stock fans. Now my computer won't post. It simply spins the...

Re: New computer help needed
The CPU has G0 stepping. I didn't touch the memory, it is running at all defaults with the manufacturer suggested voltage of 2.2V. I removed both jumpers from my hard drives. I tried a third time and got so far as the opening screen of vista installation before it locked up again. I'll try updating ...

I just finished building an entirely new computer and I'm having a strange problem. First here's what's in it: Corsair 620HX Asus P5K Deluxe Intel Q6600 (With Zalman 9700) EVGA Geforce 8800 GTS 320 2x1GB Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066 2x Seagate Barracuda 500 GB SATA HDD Lite-On Optical drive that does...

Re: Total newbie needs help
Thanks, I think the reason I was going to get the 6700 was the B3 vs G0 stepping, but the 6600s should all have G0 now too so that's not an issue anymore. As for the other stuff . . . I need this thing working before christmas so I guess I'll just have to go with what's available and maybe upgrade s...

Re: Total newbie needs help
I heard the q6700 is a better overclocker, although like I said I'm new and just learning all of this. Is it really not worth it over the q6600? As for the new stuff coming out, isn't there always something new coming out to wait for? Or is this stuff especially revolutionary/worth the wait?

Re: Total newbie needs help
Thanks for the help! While I'm on the topic, does anyone have recommendations for a case for this thing? I like the case I have listed but it was more or less a shot in the dark. I've heard the P182 is a good case as well. I want something that's modest (no big windows with tons of lights and crap),...

Total newbie needs help
Hey everyone, this is my first post here although I've been coming here for a while to just read and learn. I've built simple middle-of-the-road machines for friends and family before, but never anything with much performance. I'm putting together a new computer for myself and I need a little help. ...
