Re: Gigabyte v Asus ???
Lasting and aging do not make an investment. An investment is something that you buy and then (try to) sell at above cost... An investment is also something you buy then use to make money off. In my case I develop software for a living so all my computers are investments. If I did not invest in the...

Re: Gigabyte v Asus ???
My last 2 builds have been Gigabyte (a P45 UD4P and a P55A UD4P). For friends I have been using ASUS (with integrated video)... as others have mentioned both are good brands. On my last build I decided on the P55A UD4P mainly because of the Realtek ALC889 sound chip which I have read is better than ...

Well, if you believe The Inquirer, apparently the combination of a heat spreader and the stiffener around it is not a good thing:

Re: GTX 260 on a D975XBX2
Well I got a GTX 260 from my local retailer (Futureshop) who had it on sale. Since they have a no questions asked return policy, I figured I could just return the card if it didn't fit. The good news is that this card fits on the D975XBX2 housed inside a Zalman GT1000 case. The backside of the card ...

GTX 260 on a D975XBX2
Has anybody tried using a GTX 260 (or 280) video card on their D975XBX2 motherboard? The reason I'm asking is I noticed the 260s have a shroud on the backside and the D975XBX2 has very little space between the bottom RAM clips and the video card. I wonder if the 260 will fit.

Re: Intel RAID 8.5.0.1032 with MS Vista
I just downloaded the file and double clicked on the exe... that installed the drivers. You then have to go to device manager to verify if the Policies are set for write caching. In my case, I had to turn these on manually.

Re: Intel RAID 8.5.0.1032 with MS Vista
I have installed it on my 975XBX2 running Vista Ultimate... note that I have AHCI enabled. Initially I thought it made the system slower but after I while I checked the hard drive properties under Device Manager and it turns out the option to enable write caching for both of the hard drives in my sy...

Re: sata hot swappable
I have 2 eSATA drives (using Thermaltake Max 4 enclousures) attached to my XBX2 via 2 eSATA brackets. One bracket is connected to the red Marvell eSATA port... I do have the latest version of the Marvell drivers installed. The other eSATA bracket/drive is attached to the Intel SATA port on the mothe...

Re: 975XBX2 / E-SATA Question
I have had no problems whatsoever with the Marvell controller. I suspect those that have had problems had an earlier revision of the 975XBX2 board. Also, I don't get bothered by an extra 1-2 second message that appears at boot time... as a matter of fact, in Vista I seldom do a full reboot anymore a...

Check out these threads... one from here at Legit and another from Tom's Hardware forums... I followed these to get my AHCI enabled as I originally installed Vista with the default non-AHCI drivers too: http://forums.legitreviews.com/about10253.html http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/240304-30-switch...

Re: 975XBX2 / E-SATA Question
I have 2 eSATA enclosures that I alternately plug into a SATA to eSATA bracket that in turn plugs to the red Marvell eSATA connector. I have been using it with no problems for more than 6 months. You do have to enable Marvell controller in the BIOS and install the Marvell RAID drivers even though yo...

Re: 975XBX2 Audio Drivers
I downloaded and installed the 19MB file (older) a few weeks ago... works fine on Vista Ultimate. I did remember having to reboot to finally get the sound working properly. It appears the newer Vista specific version has the Includes Intel® Audio Studio. Not sure what that does but the sound drivers...

Re: WTF is up with BX2's?
Satisfied BX2 owner here... no major problems even with when using the Marvell eSATA port to which I have connected an eSATA external drive. One very minor problem I do have is the Processor Thermal Margin reading sometimes gets lost... easily fixed by unplugging the PSU though. I have recommended t...

Re: Why You Should Not Buy that $699 Flat Panel This Holiday
I'm not sure what to say here... if you can only afford $699 then there is nothing wrong with a 720p HDTV... the picture quality is still amazing and I've owned a 42" 720p TV for over a year now... No complaints here and to be honest I paid less for it in 2006 than they are selling for new now...

Re: D975XBX2 video card recomendations
Not sure how easy it is to set up 2 x 3870s in Crossfire mode but that may be the way to go. I have a D975XBX2 with an EVGA 8800 GTS 640 and I had to lower the resolution (from 1920 x 1200) and set the quality to high (instead of super high) to make Crysis playable... even then it is still a bit lag...

Re: Automatically turn off computer every day?
Creating a shortcut on the desktop pointed to shutdown.exe with the appropriate switches is also an excellent way to turn off a PC controlled via Remote Desktop. In my case, I use the Wake up on LAN (WoL) feature to wake up a "headless" remote computer and the shutdown shortcut to turn it ...
