I considered the open box stuff once or twice but never went through with it. The old phrase "spend a dollar to save a dime" kept playing in my head and I always went with new.
I've heard of people having good luck with the open box items but I wouldn't risk it.

Re: D975XBX2 video card recomendations
I'd wait for the 1GB 8800GT cards. At 1900x1200 you're gonna need lot's of video memory. I've been a loyal ATi fan for years and it kills me to reccomend and non ATi card, but the truth is that ATi just doesn't have it going on right now. SLI and CF is overrated IMO and a waste of money. As far as I...

Re: D975XBX2 loses memory timings
What's the speed of the memory you're running? What are your reference clock and memory clock settings? What are your timings? If you set the timings too agressively or your FSB causes your RAM to overclock too much then the BIOS will reset them to the SPD timings/speed. Here's a good calculator: ht...

New 975XBX2 BIOS. Version 2802. C1E Issue Fixed.
In case anyone is interested there's a new 975XBX2 BIOS out. It's version 2802. Among other things it fixes the C1E setting in the BIOS having no effect as well as adding additonal processor support. The release notes didn't mention which processors will now be supported but if anyone has info I'd l...

Why won't Intel fix the Bad Axe 2 C1E/EIST problem???
I noticed that even after disabling C1E and EIST in the BIOS the CPU still uses it. The only way I've found to make it go away is to use RMClock. I've looked around the net and it seems like this has been a problem with these boards since they came out. It seems like by now Intel would have done som...

Re: D975XBX2 Overclocking Help Needed
Well boys, I got it worked out. I guess when I flashed the BIOS right after I installed the board something went wonky because I updated to the newest one and finally got an overclock. I'm running 3.0GHz and 266/667 @ 5-4-4-12 on the RAM which comes out to DDR2 833 when it's all said and done. I ben...

Re: D975XBX2 Overclocking Help Needed
I tried what you suggested and it didn't work. Also, Watchdog, C1E, and EIST have been disabled all along. The fact that C1E is disabled and CPU-Z still reports a 6x multi is strange. In my past expereince though, when C1E is enabled, CPU-Z will show the multi flip-flopping back and forth between a ...

Re: D975XBX2 Overclocking Help Needed
Hypothecitally speaking, since I'm going for a 3.0GHz OC and I have my FSB set to 333, what should I have my Reference Frequency and Memory Frequency set at if I'm using DDR2 800? FWIW, I was finally able to get the computer to boot at 3.0GHz using a RF of 266 and a MF of 533. The strange thing is t...

Re: D975XBX2 Overclocking Help Needed
I forgot to add that I also tried the settings the 975XBX2 calculator gave me but once again it didn't work. I'm about to give up entirely and just run the damn thing stock. Initally I thought this is the way it would work... I'm shooting for a 3.0GHz overclock so that means I have to use a 1333MHz ...

Re: D975XBX2 Overclocking Help Needed
I already read that thread before I posted but thanks anyway. I went back and upped the chipset voltage to 1.575 but again it was a no go. I also pulled out the two sticks of 512MB RAM but that didn't help either. I still cant adjust the timings without the BIOS automatically setting them to 5-4-4-1...

D975XBX2 Overclocking Help Needed
I just got a Bad Axe 2 and I'm having ZERO success overclocking with it. Hopefully someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong... Although I'm no guru when it comes to OC'ing, I've owned two other overclocking boards in the past and had success overclocking with both of them. The first was an Asus A8N3...

Re: Soon To Be Bad Axe 2 Owner
I don't know what BIOS it'll ship with, but I already downloaded the current BIOS and plan to flash it right off the bat. I'm looking to get my Q6600 up to about 3.0GHz. If I can do that I'll be happy. I see no reason at this point in time to go for an insane overclock. Besides I'm too po' to go aro...

Soon To Be Bad Axe 2 Owner
What's up. I ordered up a new Bad Axe 2 mobo yesterday and stumbled across this forum looking for some extra info about the board in the meantime. I currently own an EVGA NF68-A1 SLI board and it's nothing but a POS. I've been building systems for about 6 years now and besides one Asus (which was al...
