Re: Asus M3A AM2+ System "Swamp Thing" (56k Warning)

It is a bit of a balancing act. With my Ballistix I can still do cas4 at 428-430mhz and memory performance is much stronger than at cas5 running 457mhz.

Re: Asus M3A AM2+ System "Swamp Thing" (56k Warning)

Well the 3870 runs great, better than benchmarks state. Real game performance is not far behind the 8800gt. I like mine, and pencil modded it to run 918mhz on the core. I have an aftermarket cooler on it. I just remember that my old 1900xtx liked the water cooling more than the cpu did, so you might...

Re: Asus M3A AM2+ System "Swamp Thing" (56k Warning)

"I heard some good things about the Gigabyte 790x, but your still mixing Phenoms and X2s" actually I was comparing benchmarks on the x2's. In anycase the Phenom is a no go for me, I decided I blew to much money after buying this board and will return to the x2. The Phenom does crank out mo...

Re: Asus M3A AM2+ System "Swamp Thing" (56k Warning)

Hey Methious, I posted this on xtremesystems as well: Sorry to derail the M3A side of this: I just ran science mark on the Gigabyte 790fx with the Phenom stock and got the same score I got with the M3A turned up to its max, I consider that a really good start. It has voltage up to 1.38v for the cpu....

I answered on the other forum. As far as it goes for me my mosfets are luke warm to the touch, not hot enough for sinks.

Re: Asus M3A AM2+ System "Swamp Thing" (56k Warning)

My nb cooler used the hooked screws with nuts. I had to turn one in and one out to get them to line up, largely thanks to the capacitor in the phot you took.

My cooler came with a round rubber gasket, I wonder if you can buy them someplace. Looks like it has a good sized reservoir.

Re: Asus M3A AM2+ System "Swamp Thing" (56k Warning)

Sure, and why waste money :). My Cooler Master case has a really quiet 12cm on it, so I left it as well. I suspended I 13cm fan to the Accelero S1 for the g-card, and suspended (wire tied) another one behind the card to blow on the 3870 v-reg and the boards southbridge. The last one I suspended with...

Re: Asus M3A AM2+ System "Swamp Thing" (56k Warning)

Maybe I will email the engineering department again and ask that question. I have a feeling it will take more, but not that brave to try.

This fan is what I referred to:

But not trying to sway you if you already have a favorite.

Re: Asus M3A AM2+ System "Swamp Thing" (56k Warning)

Looks like a nice cooling system once you get it together. If you want a quiet barely audible fan to keep air moving, I use three of the 13cm Thermaltakes. They don't mount to the 12cm case hole, but great to hang in front of a component like your cpu cooler. Not a big air mover, just silent. I have...

Re: Asus M3A AM2+ System "Swamp Thing" (56k Warning)

Asus support gave me the email address of the Asus engineering group. I mentioned the Phenom voltage, the ganged memory, and the TLB fix option. Hopefully something comes of it. If you go Intel maybe you should get the q6600, I keep spotting it on sale for $250 without the hs. People are getting 3.6...

Re: Asus M3A AM2+ System "Swamp Thing" (56k Warning)

Swamp Thing is a name you might not want to name it :) good luck with the liquid cooling. Remember to test the pump and hose connections before installing it. Keep a good eye on it from time to time. I blew a hose off of mine after it shut down one night. I smelled it and bounced out of bed, fortuna...

Re: Asus M3A AM2+/AM2 Mobo upgrade 56K warning

A 501 beta bios is out but not available for download yet :( somebody has it on another forum, it is getting better for the Phenom from what is stated, but still not there yet. Voltage can be changed, but the NB multiplier is still missing. From what others have said the NB multiplier is critical fo...

Re: Asus M3A AM2+/AM2 Mobo upgrade 56K warning

Interesting AOD did not read my x2 temps, but did read the Phenom. I would not suggest using the AOD to overclock the Phenom, it caused me more issues with the Phenom than the x2. Since I also have a 9600 I can suggest this: HT1200 FSB 214 Don't use the new bios unless you want to use a bios editor ...

Re: Asus M3A AM2+/AM2 Mobo upgrade 56K warning

The original bios permitted vchange with the Phenom, but attempts to do so caused crashes. The new bios is limited to 1.25v. The math indicates this processor at 2.7 would equal the x2 at 3.2ghz on this board (Science Mark, 3dmark would exceed). Phenoms are hitting 2.6-2.7 on other boards. This boar...
