Re: D975XBX2 - Another Problem

update: My computer has been running smooth since installing the new mobo! I've been playing FarCry 2 and L4D for many continuous hours with zero problems.

Thanks again!

Re: D975XBX2 - Another Problem

Late last week I received my RMA'd intel board in the mail. I put it in my case, hooked everything up and so far so good, no problems!!! It's been running for about 2 hours now with no problems. I'm just running some updates now. I will say that Intel was really fast on shipping my new board out to ...

Re: D975XBX2 - Another Problem

Well, I finally took the processor and heatsink out, cleaned them and applied new artic silver paste. I booted into the bios and watched the temps for about 5 min. Processor thermal margin: 29c, internal temp: 34c, remove temp: 30c. I then proceeded to boot into windows. I didn't even get a few seco...

Re: D975XBX2 - Another Problem

Hey Jack, thanks for the concern! I haven't switched over the card yet. The card is kind of a pain to get in and out with the way my power cords are tied up. I'll post as soon as I try this. On another note, I did find a thread on a different forum (can't remember the link - will post later) where s...

Re: D975XBX2 - Another Problem

No dice on that linux live cd. It got about 10 seconds into the loading and red light on the mobo, just like with Vista. Going to move the video card to the second pci-e (x8) slot next.

Re: D975XBX2 - Another Problem

I'm downloading this ubuntu os now. I was reading through some documentation and it sounds like this will install the os on my machine and maybe over write what I have on there now. Can anyone confirm and explain? Thanks!

Re: D975XBX2 - Another Problem

No on board video i'm afraid. I think i'm going to try running that linux live cd first and see if we can eliminate this being a vista problem. I'll try running that tonight and post my results. FarCry 2 is out today so i'm getting anxious to play it!

Thanks for all the help so far guys!

Re: D975XBX2 - Another Problem

Yeah, you could say that. Could the video cause the red light on the motherboard to come on? What would you recommend, can I move the card to another slot? I have a geforce 8800gts. I looked at the motherboard and the primary pci-e slot is for x16 electrical and the other slot is for x8. Will this m...

Re: D975XBX2 - Another Problem

Still waiting on a response from intel. Does anyone think I should try taking the heatstink off and applying new thermal grease?

Re: D975XBX2 - Another Problem

I spoke to a support rep yesterday and they wanted me to try removing the CMOS battery. I did that today and still the same problem. I guess we can cross this one off the list :-k

Re: D975XBX2 - Another Problem

I just finished the bios recovery/update. I loaded vista and it didn't even finish loading all of my programs before the light came on the mobo. Hmm, going to go back to intel support and see what they say. Any other ideas to try?

Thanks again!

Re: D975XBX2 - Another Problem

I went to intels site and started up chat with someone in support. He wants me to do a recovery on my bios so i'm going to do that tomorrow when I can burn the file to a cd and boot from it. Just want to give an update of what i'm trying next.

Thanks!

Re: D975XBX2 - Another Problem

Before I went to bed last night, the computer booted up and was on for about 10 min before I shut it down and went to bed. Tonight, I turned it on and it stayed on for abou 15 min before the red light came on the mobo. I have that intel hardware monitor thingy on my desktop and the only thing I noti...

Re: D975XBX2 - Another Problem

I just booted windows in safemode. My mouse wasn't working (batteries low) so I went to get them and by the time I came back, the red light on the mobo was on and the monitor was black :(

Any ideas?

Re: D975XBX2 - Another Problem

Ahh, just found some info on the memtest86+ thingy... "To conclude, one successful pass of memtest will give you a pretty good idea that your memory is ok, only in rare cases will there be errors showing after the first pass. To be sure though simply have the test run overnight or even for a co...

Re: D975XBX2 - Another Problem

I ran one of the cpu tester programs for about 10 min. Did about 400,000 interations with no problems. I'm running the memtest86+. Man this thing takes forever to run, it's at Pass 17% WallTime 1:32:11. Doesn't look like any problems so far. I don't know if it will finish before I go to bed, don't r...

Re: D975XBX2 - Another Problem

I just got the ubcd downloaded and put on a cd. I'll have to wait until later this evening before I can try it. I do have one question. What option(s) should I run first?

Thanks!

Re: D975XBX2 - Another Problem

I didn't see any options in the bios for shutdown temps. There really isn't any dust on the heatsink. I also turned up my fans to high. I get the same results. When I tried to boot to safemode or command prompt, the computer goes off at the same point everytime - on the crcdisk.sys file - that's whe...
