PERC 5/i blues

So I'm reading around the internets and apparently the PERC 5/i makes a nice, cheap hardware RAID addition to any system...provided you have the right mobo. Does anyone here have experience with the 5/i? What recent (less than a year) mobos does it work with? You can probably guess I'm building a fi...

Silly Question - Palm Rests and Discoloration

My old laptop was an Inspiron E1505. Its body was made of plastic. Over the four years I owned it, the area under where my palms tended to go when typing slowly discolored. Now the obvious solution is to not type with your hands resting on the computer (and that may be better for posture too), but a...

Re: How to change the taskbar of window 7 back to default?

If something went funny with your drivers (I've had times when going to Personalize doesn't bring it back), type "problems with transparency" and press Enter. This brings up the Aero Troubleshooter, which can restart services and what-have-you automatically should something minor go wrong ...

Re: Google Wave

I see a lot of potential, but until more features are enabled and I have a chance to really test it real-world (say, in the office that I am student manager in), I won't know what to think of it.

Re: Watching Avatar in 3D

It's polarized, not red and blue. I saw it and while it was hardly perfect (IMAX 3D) it was certainly good enough that in some parts I was either wanting to duck or getting slightly dizzy.

Re: Weird Network Share Problem

All the other Windows 7 computers on the network can access the Linux server--that's what's so weird about this. The laptop is Windows 7 Professional. All computers are in "WORKGROUP." All the other computers have no problems accessing any network shares, including the ones on Mike-Laptop....

Weird Network Share Problem

My friend has a very odd network problem. He has a home network with several computers on it, an Arch Linux media server and four Windows 7 PCs. The problem is that he cannot browse network shares, but it's more complicated than it first appears. The problem machine is called "Mike-Laptop"...

Excel destroyed my data!

I have a spreadsheet for my senior project in Political Science that contains lists of members of Congress. Each sheet also has data for gender (0 - male, 1 - female), party (0 - Democrat, 1 - Republican), state (listed by US Postal Service abbreviation) and several other variables. For some reason,...

Re: ** Official 2009 [email protected] WAR Competition Thread **

I really did want to Fold on that second GPU, but it is not cooperating. That is the only problem I've ever had with this GPU, actually. how are you allocating the extra monitor? extend/display 1/2 etc i just know SLI->dual GPU needs to be 'extended' when i fold or the client crashes Display 1 is p...

you got two monitors plugged into the card? On those daul PCB cards you needs two monitors or the dummy plugs. Yep, I have three monitors. Two 22" plugged into the 9800GX2's DVI ports. Still gives me errors. SLI and PhysX were both off during my testing, I have the latest drivers, and I reinst...

Re: ** Official 2009 [email protected] WAR Competition Thread **

I'm officially out--three hours of work and nothing but NaN/mdrun_gpu returned to show for it. I can't Fold on my second GPU no matter what I do. Re-engaging SLI, switching back to default (SMP + ONE 9800 core). if your second GPU is the one listed in your sig, i dont think the 7900 is supported fo...

Re: ** Official 2009 [email protected] WAR Competition Thread **

The second GPU is just bad news. It EUE's/NaNs constantly. Even with shaders/memory decreased. Temps are not a problem, maybe 60C if that. Now the first one is saying "core from disk is invalid" and going to sleep. If I don't get this fixed in the next 15 minutes, count me out! So much for...

Re: ** Official 2009 [email protected] WAR Competition Thread **

Is it against the rules to get all of my HighSchool's computers folding for my team? DO NOT FOLD ON MACHINES THAT ARE NOT YOURS WITHOUT EXPRESS PERMISSION!!!!! Doing so could not only get you in trouble, but also negatively impact the image of Folding. Folding uses extra electricity, generates heat...

Re: ** Official 2009 [email protected] WAR Competition Thread **

try removing the overclock or if both are on the same system then make sure you setup the two [email protected] directories and shortcuts right. I have two GPU directories (GPU1 and GPU2). They have different Machine IDs. One is pointed to GPU0, the other to GPU2 (for some reason GPU0 = 9800, GPU1 = 7900GTX, GPU...

Can I still get in on this? Q6600 @ 3.2, dual 9800GX2 (switching off SLI for contest if I can still get in)... Something like 10kPPD or more I think.
