Re: Vista or hold out for Windows 7?

Since most of the bugs with vista have been worked out, I'd go with Vista. Windows 7 isn't planned for release until 2009 or 2010, then you'll have to deal with bugs for months.
Since SP1, Vista has been pretty much rock solid.

Re: Comparison between SLI and CROSS FIRE

Not to mention the 3870X2 is on 1 PCB, while I do believe the 9800GX2 is 2 PCB's, so that makes it much easier to put a water block on an 3870X2 for serious overclocking!

Now how about the 4870 vs 9800GX2!

Re: Misunderstanding with AMD 125W TDP processors & motherboards

It seems with AMD processors, a lower TDP doesn't necessarily mean an increase in overclocking potential. At least with the X2 line It may yield 100 more mhz. But who knows what will happen with the Phenoms. We may see a larger jump!

Re: compatibility of Processors

No. They're completely different sockets. On the newer Intel CPU's the pins are on the motherboard, while for AMD the pins are on the CPU.

Re: To Upgrade or not?

I'd be a bit worried about your CPU bottlenecking the 8800GT. Your best bet would be to get a new motherboard, CPU, RAM and the videocard. If you can't afford it at the moment, just keep saving money until you can afford to get all 4.

Re: U.S. lags behind in broadband infrastructure

The thing about North American countries lagging behind on internet infrastructure, particularly the United States and Canada. Is these two countries are MASSIVE. For companies to lay massive amounts of fiber gets very expensive. While in other smaller countries it's much cheaper to lay fiber. Let's...

They were down before(last year?) and were back up and running days later. They'll be back up soon, really it's impossible to kill TBP.

Re: XP or Vista?

+1 vista I've been running Vista 32-bit for a good while now, no problems, Aero gives a wonderful feel. Your system will run vista with no problems. Now on 64 bit 32 bit, M$ is expecting all new systems to be shipping with 64-bit OS' by 2009, well they hope. But all the concerns about 64-bit vista a...

Re: And they say video games has no effect on people..

Quick somebody call Jack Thompson! They guns don't kill people. People kill people. Which is something I agree with. Same applies to Games don't kill people. People kill people. It's not like the disc just came flying out and chopped their head off. People should be sensible enough not to take thing...

Re: DVD RW drive doesn't read dvds, not recognized by XP Pro?

Prices of DVD burners are what $40, replacing the diode you're spending $20, then you're risking killing the drive. What if it's not the diode, you're best bet is a new drive. Plus depending on the age of your drive, a new drive may be a better choice due to better format and disc support, faster bu...

Re: ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 (R680) Pictured in CrossFire

I'd really like to see the performance of the 3870X2 in a crossfire x setup, eight cores of glory! I'd expect that the more cards you add, the lower % of a performance boost a card will give. But hey, if you have money to burn and a 100" television, stuff would be, uh, playable. But I would als...

Hey all

I'm new here as I'm sure you can see. Stumbled upon this place today, looks like a nice cozy(so to speak) place. Although I have read some of your reviews, never really thought about joining the forum. Hopefully I can make this another one of my internet homes! I have always considered myself and AM...
