I'm pushing, but unfortunatly I do not know which is better. But other than saying it 'feels' like a more efficient way, I do not have any grounds to claim that it is any better.

My personal favorite burners are from Plextor. I do not currently own one, but I had a SCSI burner from plextor 10 years ago.
And the performance compared to other burners was so great that I'm still a plextor fanboy

It might even be your OS.
Did the reboots happen using the same OS every time, if so you could try to download a Linux Live CD and see if your PC also reboots when running that.
Just another option to pinpoint your problem.

I have the Asus GTS 512 and after 15 minutes of artifact scanning with atitool I get temperatures of around 85 degrees C. That's with stockcooling and using all stock settings. With Crysis it hasn't reached 80 degrees yet, but I haven't done exhaustive testing so far. Just out of curiosity, what set...
