I found the problem. I had to use a different optical drive. It still took 4 tries to get Windows installed...but it's installed. Idk why the drive didn't want to work with the mobo, but I guess that just happens sometimes... Thanks to everybody for your help. I really appreciate it.

See if your drive will boot up a LiveCD Linux distro. If it does then the problem is elsewhere. yeah, that's what i figured y'all meant when you said livecd. Thats the exact version of ubuntu i've been trying to boot with. I guess tomorrow that i'll try interchanging cpu's and/or motherboards since...

what do you mean by "livecd"? I took it to mean any cd that could be used to boot an os.

i am trying to run ubuntu from the disk and not the hard drive. i just downloaded the "ultimate boot disk" and i'm gonna see what i can get done with that. And yes, I did use the included thermal paste. Temps are 33c for cpu and 31c for board.

If it was me, I'd take the drive out and put it in another working computer as a slave and fix the problem that way. That way you can boot up in a working os and run your virusscan tool or do whatever you need to do to fix it. But if yo udon't have an extra comp sitting around, this doesn't work so ...

Also, what's the point of 2 side fans, won't it just make the hot air stay inside? 1 on the side + top makes some sense, but 3... no :? Maybe you would mount the fans to blow away from the cooler creating a low pressure vacuum type cooling. Idk, but that's crazy stuff right there....a tornado in yo...

K, so you can't see the files on your hdd that you copied from the camera, right? Can you hook up the camera via usb and see them that way? Maybe the files/folders just corrupted in the transfer. And are you using any kind of software that came with the camera?
