Prebuilt recomendations

Im trying to pick out a new pc for the old man. He's currently running a Pentium 4 Dell XPS. I upgraded his ram to 3gb and video card to handle his 2 widescreen monitors. The sub $1000 budget is decent considering he doesnt need a crazy dedicated gpu, i think the current 9800gt is fine. He needs it ...

New prebuilt pc recommendations

Hi all, I need to tell my dad what pc to get to upgrade from his XPS400. He has 2 24" monitors that currently run on a 9800gt (i think). Software which he uses: photoshop for basic editing, ms office, with news videos playing on the second screen. I was thinking that any i5 or i7 would be enoug...

Re: quad core help

OK thanks, that was helpful. I think i will go for the 9550 since it is new out of the store, just on a discount. less wear means more life for me, i suppose.

Re: quad core help

I would eliminate the q9400 as it only has a l2 cache of 6mb and the 9450 and 9550 both have 12mb l2 cache. The 9550 starts at 2.83 and the 9450 starts at 2.66. I would probably go with the 9550 if it were me, though both would be a good choice. i dont care too much about the starting clocks, i pla...

Re: quad core help

haha yea it was an awesome game. i spend my middle school life playing it. what do you mean binning? as i see it, the qxx50 s have 12mb cache as opposed to 6mb on the 9400. but the 9400 apparently replaced the 9450. and the r0 stepping on it has good overclocking. so i guess my choices are q9400 vs ...

HD 4830 black screen

While playing a movie or simply idling, the screen goes black as if the connection was interrupted. I can still control whatever apps were still running ( I know because itunes was running with music playing). I have tried locking and unlocking the stock clocks. This should not be a heat issue becau...

Re: 4830 folding

Cool thanks didnt know about that place. So i apparently get 1028 points a day, pretty bad. Thats with an oc'd 8600gt and 8400gs m on my xps laptop.
So I don't have to worry about lack of folding performance on my new 4830. Now, is there a way to still use my 8600gt and not build another pc?

4830 folding

I just bought a sapphire 4830 for a good price. I was thinking of putting it into my system, but because ati is pretty bad with folding, i kinda want to sell it off and stick with my evga 8600gt. Will I get around the same folding performance with the 4830?

the crucial is 2T, and i beleive the ocz was 2T as well. I dont know how to change that part of the timing in bios even if its not.

Re: New 2gb ram kit problems

To the NB? how would that help the ram stability? And you're saying make it 1T for all four sticks or just while playing with the crucial?

Re: New 2gb ram kit problems

I did auto settings timings and rating bu 1.8v and its became 5-5-5-18 at ddr2 974 and no errors. so it seems that the crucial ram is pretty nice.
(only crucial tested so far)

Re: New 2gb ram kit problems

Actually I first tried them together on the previous settings, so around 830. I didnt try at 800 with both sets

Btw the crucial is the new set (BL2CP12864AA80A ) that is supposed to work much better than the previous version.

Need TV to connect to laptop

I am looking to buy a hdtv (at least 42") on which I can display stuff from a vga connection on a laptop. I have heard that the tv should have a PC mode that will display 1024 x 768, and aspect ratio correction ability. What i gathered from googling it that almost any tv can be used, but I woul...
