Re: New to OCing

Just as a follow-up, I meant to post back sooner, but never got to it.

I pushed the voltage up a notch at 333, and have since been running stable at 3ghz.

I idle at around 33.

Thanks for the assistance.

Re: New to OCing

Well just simply from reading the how to guide on this forum I have already discovered that the tool that Gigabyte shipped with the board is inadequate.. instead of the 40° it is reporting, Hardware Monitor, and Core Temp agree that my cores are ranging from 49° - 52°.. There's a secondary onBoard s...

New to OCing

Hi, I've never really done anything with over-clocking before, but given I heard such good things about the Q6600 G0 model, I figured I could get a little more speed out of it relatively painlesly.. I first up bumped the FSB to 333, giving me an effective of 1332 and a cpu speed of 3ghz. I pushed th...

Re: CPU Heatsink Backwards.

I used to leave it on all the time, but since getting the 8800 GT, it's a noisy beast, and I turn it off at nights.. I just bumped the FSB up to 333, so I have an FSB of 1332, and a CPU speed of 3ghz I pushed the memory multiplier down to 5:6, so she's running at 800mhz on the ram still. I now have ...

Re: CPU Heatsink Backwards.

That said.. I'm now idling with 19° CPU 36 System.. Prime95 torture test has been running for a few minutes now and has stepped up the CPU fan speed, CPU temp holding around 26°, system has dropped to 34° Probably because the increased speed on the CPU fan is drawing more system air out the back of ...

Re: CPU Heatsink Backwards.

Sometimes I wonder why I bother...

I now have to remove the corner of the plastic fan bracket to clear the northbridge heatsink.. and then move my RAM to 2/4 instead of 1/3 because it blocks the first ram slot..

Neat..

Re: CPU Heatsink Backwards.

Well I have some time this weekend, so time to re-orient.. It might explain why I'm getting CPU temps of 31° whereas my system temps are 37° if I am blowing the CPU heat back into the box.. Given I have the G0, I may consider an OC once I have the fan going the right way.. So I'm cleaning off this t...

Re: CPU Heatsink Backwards.

Any special trick to cleaning off the old paste? I know they sell cleaning kits for it, but is it really that bad to get off? Also any orientation for the line of compound? some site was suggesting a full line (width of grain of rice) down 80% the length of the CPU vertical for dual core, and horizo...

Re: CPU Heatsink Backwards.

Thanks for the welcome, and the advice! My main reluctance is I dislike working with thermal compound.. Mainly out of ignorance. I have some "silver thermal compound" Ultra Brand I believe.. 10% Silver, < 0.06 thermal resistance, >7.5W thermal transfer I also have some Fanner 420 thermal c...

CPU Heatsink Backwards.

I have a cooler question, I just installed an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro, on a Q6600, and discovered much to my dismay that it blows air backwards, rather than forwards. I still have good temps on it, but it is about an inch from a case fan running against it now, and any heat is being pushed back on the ...
