I washed the blue rubbery thermal bridges in warm soapy water, didnt touch the spongey one on the gpu. Put it back on, laptop works perfectly, no GPU problems. Computer is still going fine, its been running nonstop (with the occasional reset) since it got it working.

Did you try it with one? I had a similar problem, one stick worked, any more and it wouldnt post. When i got into the bios i messed about and got it to take 2 sticks. Its just a lot of trying and testing.
