I fail at reading fine print
My bother (being a totally awesome baller) bought me an XFX 6970 for Xmas this year, and as much as I love it, the fan was WAY too loud for my taste. So I decided that it was finally time for me to venture into the deep end of the pool and get me some liquid cooling. Now, allow to to preface this ne...

Re: Video killed the ... overclock?
Power supply came last week. Finally got a chance to put it in last night. And... It wasn't the power supply. Brand new PSU, and still can't overclock my CPU :( So now on to the next candidate, a strange interaction between the motherboard and video card. Since I don't have a different motherboard t...

Re: Video killed the ... overclock?
The Corsair 950 from newegg. I figured I couldn't go wrong with Corsair, as they are constantly recommended here, and I've never heard anyone complain about them. I'm sure that the 950 is overkill for what I have now, but I plan on upgrading in the future and, if I ever work up the nerve to take on ...

Re: Video killed the ... overclock?
Yeah, reseating the card was the first thing I tried. I also took out the tool-free case clips and secured it with "ye olde" screws to make sure it was in there good and proper. I ordered a new power supply... Serendipitously my sister was given a free computer this weekend with a non-func...

Bought myself one a them shiny new ATI cards. One 'o the 5770's, seein as the 5800's are all sold out. Anyway, I stick the ruttin thing in there, and now all of a sudden I can't seem to overclock my goram cpu anymore. Re: bad USB dongle causes shutdown?
Indeed, I forgot to mention it in the original post, but I did try the dongle (yes that is a fun word) in different USB ports. Specifically I tried both sets on the motherboard panel (on the back) and both sets on the front of the case. The result was consistent throughout, immediate loss of power. ...

bad USB dongle causes shutdown?
This evening I sat down to relax, intent on watching a bit of Monty Python's Flying Circus, when suddenly my HTPC decided it was time to power off. At first I thought perhaps Vista had downloaded something which required it to restart, and the unit simply failed to restart. Not a problem I'll just g...

Anyone know of a good one that is legit Any accredited college is legit. http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Index.aspx will tell you if a University is accredited. and cheaper than $350 per credit? That's is roughly what I "pay" at the University of Phoenix. I find it insanely overpriced for...

Re: Wireless USB WEP Issue
Wireless networks are just not my forte I could swear that said Wireless laptop... I think, maybe I need more sleep and less video games. The 11 CH listed in the specs is nothing to worry about. That simply means it is compatible with all 11 channels used here in the United States. The FCC (or equi...

Re: Wireless USB WEP Issue
First, don't use WEP if you can avoid it. It is NOT secure. Anyone who has read the "How-to" can crack a WEP encryption in about 5 minutes. WEP offers roughly the same security as putting a brown paper bag on your router. The only people that WEP will keep out of your network are cheapskat...

Re: Computer to TV display, S-video problem
Sounds like a ground loop. I experienced a similar problem recently which was creating a really irritating humming noise. From Wikipedia's entry on ground loops In video, ground loops can be seen as hum bars (bands of slightly different brightness) scrolling vertically up the screen. These are frequ...

Re: What OS is best for Intel I7 to have 6GB
You like having to click 5 times to do anything?!? It doesn't bother me. But, what I do like is knowing which programs require admin privileges to function properly and which don't. Probably because I am a control freak. I like knowing exactly what every program is doing, how it is doing it, and wh...
