Re: UpGrade
It is ultimately your decision on the PSU. I have seen more new units gut out than old ones die. It is your comfort level. I have set up systems with a 650i MB, 4Gig of RAM and a quad core Q6600 processor and an 8800 Vid card, all on a 550 PSU, and twin 250Gig HD's. Its a close fit. If you want a ne...

Re: UpGrade
It is fully functional at the moment and shows no signs of insufficiency. Just because he hasn't published the mfg of the powersupply means nothing. Respectability and $2, will still not buy you coffee at the Ontario Airport. I follow the old axiom. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Your opinions and...

Re: UpGrade
You might want to save the money on the power supply. It makes no sense to buy a 550 Watt PS to replace a 550 Watt PS you already have. Use the money on something useful. I would also suggest if you haven't already jumped that you consider an nVidia 750 motherboard. If you plan to use an nVidia grap...

Re: using two router for two diff network security?
Much of what you need depends on the type of network and lan/wan setup. You do not necessarilly need to jump into a static internal network to do what you are infering. The problems come in if you are using the routers on a home cable internet setup. Your ISP usually only allows one router per netwo...

Re: Buy 9800GX2 or wait for GT200
I want a pair of the 280's comming out. They will have 1Gig RAM to work with on each card. One of the surprizes that hit nVidia is that Crysis can use more than the 512Mb space on the GX2's and 9800's. By all means be ready for a significant improvement with this next gen cards. A lot of what they a...

Re: Ack what did I do?
The first thing I would suggest is that you reset the BIOS to defaults. An elecrtical "shock" to the system can cause havoc to the BIOS as well. The BIOS may well have been scrambled. Do that before you reformat the drive. Your data may still be there. Didn't they provide a utility or dire...

Re: Computer freezing on boot (pic inside)
You never mentioned your hardware specs. There are some combinations of settings that can cause data corruption in certain systems. You should always "first start" a new system with the defaults set. It eliminates the possibility of many potential problems if you have a fault show up. And ...

Re: Random Freeze ups
A power supply can very well cause the problem you are experiencing. There is no problem with the FSB and the RAM settings as long as you are using default settings for the motherboard. You didn't mention the power supply rating. If it is undersized for your setup, or just dropping voltages due to o...

Re: I run on a UPS. Do you?
I have run a UPS on my main systems, for more than 10 years now. It is the only way to go. Unless u have a $50 computer, I highly recommend it. Be sure to properly guage your system demands to the size of UPS you will need. Having 30 seconds of uptime is useless, if you get a undersized UPS for your...

45nm Processors and a bit of caution
I recently experienced an upgrade from the venerable Q6600 to one of the newer Yorkfield 45nm processors. Specifically the Q9450 was my choice. I picked this because it has the full 12Mb cache, and it has taken residence on the price point well below the "extreme" processors. I have notice...

Re: PNY Verto GeForce 9600 GT Video Card Review
If I may interject without sounding critical. The two very important stats for vid cards are the number of stream processors and the bandwidth spec. I find that those two numbers give very valid comparison information for users. It is easy to look up at the mfg. website, but I feel it would have val...

Re: ?? Embarrassing: *WHICH* GTS 8800 ??
I have a pair of the eVGA 8800GTS 512 (SLI). They operate flawlessly for everything I run. eVA also offers a lifetime warranty, and an option to have replacement cards cross shipped with even Saturday delivery and overnight service, for a one time fee of $20, as long as you reg the card within 30 da...
