alright, problem solved... the 'new' card was wrecked too... i exchanged it for a geforce 5700 fx.

power lead is connected.. disable what directx features? the system is still the same, since the last 2 days... except the new (same type) graphics card. if i try to run the directx tests, the monitor switches to standby mode... hard to explain in english. volts and temps are fine.. just like i said...
