thanks for reply's im still none the wiser i have 2x1gb ddr 400-3200 both registering, i have recently added one but i did have it registering as duel once with some other ram i borrowed (same spec) do i have to change any settings anywhere!!! bios maybe?

What motherboard are you using? Typically to use dual channel the mem sticks need to be in slots of the same color.
