Here's another bottlenecking question:

I just read that AGP 8x has a bandwidth of under 3 Gb per second, so I'm wondering what the point is of buying a card that has a significantly higher throughput than that.

It's been pretty good for a while now. When I first started in April, though, they were re-starting it all the time, and I never made it through one of the lowbie dungeons without it crashing. The server had a huge population, apparently it was full from almost day one. I joined, and stuck with it, ...

But the Z71V does have the slot, correct? It's a an MXM II isn't it?

I've been playing since April and really like it. I'm on the Archimonde server. I think that soloing can get pretty repetitive (probably in any mmorpg, although this is my first, so who knows), but I play a priest, so I'm almost always grouped up. The healer role probably suits me best as far as my ...

Ah well, it's kind of a moot point for me anyway, since it appears that none of the 14" or 12.1" size models have the pci express slot. I really want to be able to upgrade the gpu eventually.

ASUS lists the z63a as being a 14" widescreen. Is this correct? I might be able to live with that size.

Honestly, I am really tempted to go for the 12.1" screen instead of the 15.4", because I know I'm going to be taking the new machine to class next year. For most of my gaming I could just hook it up to a monitor at home, but I'm just not sure if I could deal with the smaller screen for the...

My requirements are pretty modest, but I do want a 15.4" WXGA+ screen and a PCI Express module so I can upgrade the video card as I like. My previous notebook , a Compaq, had a 1.7 Ghz Athlon XP-M and an nVidia GeForce Go 4 with only 32Mb of memory. It always handled all the work applications I...

Yeah, that's a great big bummer! :( I had raced off to place an order, hoping to be the one to write your article. So, after seeing your 2nd post, I called their customer service and got the order cancelled. They were only willing to come down $10 or so on their actual price for the Z71V due to the ...

optical drives for notebooks

Are optical drives and drive bays on notebook chassis fairly standard? If they are not, how do you find out which drives will fit in your chassis? This question occurred to me while reading the How to Build a Sonoma Notebook article, where one of the components listed is the "Z71 chassis" ...

Count me in! I'm not sure if you're looking for a long-standing member or not; I just found this site a few days ago while googling for barebones notebooks. I would be very interested in doing this, if the opportunity is available to newcomers. I've got a decent amount of writing experience from sch...
