I never came across any Bluetooth in my search for Z63a options. There aren't any other slots, at least according to the manual (and my assembly).

You could always use one of the cheap USB or cardbus Bluetooth adapters.

Not aware of any way to remap the hotkeys.

I dunno about dead drives. I've had a few that seemd dead as a doornail, but once I re-installed Windows to another drive and booted up, the 'dead' drive was accessible for file retrieval. Just because it won't POST or boot, doesn't necessarily mean it can't be accessed whatsoever. Get a new drive, ...

It seems that (for mobile versions) the 6600 is way better than the x700. See here http://forums.legitreviews.com/viewtopic.php?t=3522 Remember, the Z70v (x600) and Z70va use the carbon fiber chassis and are 1 pound lighter thn the Z71v (5.6 versus 6.6 pounds). On the other hand, I see the Z71v as b...

Use 75 as a minimum, 85 or better preferred. Most folks set it to the highest their monitor will support (at a given resolution). If you have a 21" CRT it's best to stick with a max of 85. RR's Higher than 85 seems to wear the big ones out quicker.

No WonderBra's in the Future?

All of us sitting around digesting on Thanksgiving, and somebody brought out a copy of the new 'Star Wars' movie. Us guys watching came to a stunning conclusion. In various scenes, the female princesses/senators/etc appear in different outfits that feature various amounts of 'push up'. We got to thi...

If you already have 2 drives and want them networked, pick up a cheap motherboard/cpu combo ($69 this week at Fry's for retail Sempron 2800 + MB) or even a used MB/cpu/ram and vid card and RAID the drives. Most current MBs feature a LAN port and some sort of RAID controller, or if not just run them ...

Mobile GF4 6600 better than x700??

Hi Reading the Friday reviews, 'Mobile Graphics card ranking'. http://www.3dchip.com/Grafikchipliste/mobilechips.htm Wow - is the nVidia GeForce 6600 really better than the ATI x700? I've been considering building an Asus Z70v (ATI x600) versus the old warhorse Z71v (GF 6600). The prices are current...

4. Many thanks to Nathan for donation of the components that made Q’s PPK notebook possible.

I had planned to build it for my wife, but I immediately stole it for my own. I have to say I don't miss the extra screen size of my 15.4 widescreen.

3. Poor man’s 108-mbps super-wireless? Now that you have Intel A-B-G wireless, you should look into the 'A' band. The commercial wireless-A stuff got really robust before it was superceded by the superior marketing of Wireless-G. The later 5.2 GHz ‘A’ gear works great (better range for me than G or ...

2. If you’re going to build your own notebook, personalize it. An old trick is to substitute a unique sound file for start-up or any other Windows event. Any *.wav file will work: download it, go to ‘Control Panel-Sounds-Sounds tab’, select any Windows event in the lower box and do ‘Browse’. Hint: U...

Here are some notes from the review I did: 1.When you install XP, specify two equal partitions on the drive. This allows the use of Casper XP http://www.fssdev.com/products/casperxp/ Casper performs full disk-clone backups that include the FAT table and serial number, so that the clones are complete...

I'd have to say that the 3.5" enclosures have become obsolete. They use a normal desktop-size hard drive (which are cheap, I admit) but are big, heavy, and require a seperate power adapter plugged into an AC outlet. Now that 2.5" notebook drives have gotten a lot cheaper, the 2.5" ext...

Thank you, I had a lot of fun with it. Your questions: 1. The Asus dvd's come ready to click right in, no frame required. They appear on the task bar as a removable USB device, and you can hot-swap with a second hard drive or a secondary battery. 2. I'm not sure the Z63a Bluetooth really exists. It'...

I'M IN!

A piece of serendipity if I ever saw one! Inspired by your previous article, I am in the process of ordering the parts for a new laptop for my wife. While I was tempted to build a monster, when I finally listened to her I realized it is carry-weight and ease of use that were her main priorities. Aft...
