Re: WHICH ONE TO GO FOR???

for what your using it for you'll be okay with a dual core so my vote goes to the PII and try to unlock it. You take a bit of a risk but even if it doesn't unlock you won't notice much of a difference between the PII X2 and the AII x4 Yeah i will obviously try :) I believe 550 is easier to type tha...

Re: WHICH ONE TO GO FOR???

What is your budget and why not look at a quad core Phenom II? If I were in the market for a gaming AMD build it would definitely be a quad Phenom II. My budget is around the same price at what the Phenom II X2 555 and Athlon II X4 630 are right now.. And i cant get a phenom II X4 as its completely...

Re: Is this ok for the cheapest build???

I don't see any differences, My sons rig has a AM2+ Phenom X4, 4GB of DDR2 ram and he plays Modern Warfare 2 and me I play it too just look at my sig, and mine is 10 times better than my sons. Now the Fps is more to do with the GPU, better the video card better the fps. If you take the same setup o...

Re: Is this ok for the cheapest build???

The quad core has higher score on the tests because most benchmarks actually use all cores, games however..... most can't even use 2 cores. Doesn't matter what the clock speed is, for CPU scores, almost always the biggest factor is amount of cores and not clock speed. Typical games and applications...

Re: Which cooler should i buy???

the freezer64 is crap, I don't know why its recommended so often. I'll second the vote for cooler master 212 and add in the Xigmatek HDT-RS1283. Both of those coolers are 159mm though so it may be a close fit with that fan. If you need something lower profile the coolermaster gemini ii s is under 9...

Re: Is this ok for the cheapest build???

The Phenom is going to be faster for 90% of all applications, the other 10% that actually utilize all 4 cores, you probably will never use anyway, the $5 difference is negligable. and it's not really a gamble whether ur motherboard will be able to unlock it. Go google it you should find a list of a...

Re: OC'ing Athlon II X4 620 (2.6GHz)

well, the MSI 770-G45 seems to have some serious issues, it stopped being stable, at even stock clocks, so i'm going to return it for a Gigabyte 790X board GIGABYTE GA-790XTA-UD4 AM3 http://images17.newegg.com/is/image/newegg/13-128-416-Z03?$S180W$ its a little bit pricier at $139 but i just can't ...

Re: Is this ok for the cheapest build???

Phenom II X2 555 is gonna be faster that that tri-core u chose and will use less power. Also, its Black Edition so Overclocking takes 0 effort. With the right motherboard(gonna cost a bit more than the one u chose) u can unlock it to a quad core..... so ~$200 can get you a quad core 3.2ghz. If howe...

You get what you pay for .... as the saying goes. If any of those selected components have the ability for upgrading later, it may be a good choice. Sometimes, buying a complete system like an Acer low end gaming machine is a better bet. hmmmm but buying and ACER means i ve to buy HDD case PSU moni...

Keep us posted! You could always compare folding frame times as a "benchmark" but then I think the Athlon II would be the obvious winner thanks to its 4 cores. Cores is more important than raw clock speed for folding...
