Re: Two 12V rails enough?

Yes, there is, but for now I'm happy where my 4850 is running. Until I want to OC some more, i'll wait. Thanks for all your guys' feedback! :)

Re: Two 12V rails enough?

625/993. Not too impressive, I know. I didn't download FurMark, but I saw an increase of about 15 fps in the games I tested (MW2, L4D2, Black Ops) at 1680x1050. MW2 and Left 4 Dead 2 i had 2x AA on and no shadows, Black Ops was turned wayyy down (low textures, no shadows, no AA, no anisotropic filte...

Re: Two 12V rails enough?

Thanks Major! Hopefully I'll be able to get the 4850 up to some nice speeds! :drinkers:

EDIT: I used CCC and got up to 700/1068 MHz on the GPU and memory. I know it's not the best, but for 25 minutes, not bad at all, right?

Re: Two 12V rails enough?

@skier: My CPU is a Pii 955 BE, so I hope that clears that up. On a side note, my CPU shouldn't be a bottleneck for a couple more years, right? @Major: Thanks! I'll try to OC my 4850 and see how much mileage I can get out of that before I try to upgrade. Hopefully the double-slot cooler the Sapphire...

Re: Two 12V rails enough?

@Major: Thanks for clearing that up! I have a 22' 1680x1050, so the difference (at stock speeds) would be negligible? If that's the case, then do the remaining 12V give me enough overclocking headroom? I haven't OC'd many cards/CPUs (I'm a total OC noob) so I'm not familiar with the increased power ...

Two 12V rails enough?

Hey guys, I'm looking at the GTX460 MSI offers, and i noticed that it requires 24 amps on the 12V rail. My PSU (500w OCZ ModXStream) has two 12V rails @ 18A. that should be enough to safely use the new GTX460, right? On a different note, right now I'm using a 4850 from Sapphire, would the upgrade be...

Re: New HTPC/General purpose build

Thanks! This is my first time building an HTPC, so i didn't know which components would be the best. :P I replaced to PSU with this one: Seasonic X-series 400w (80+ Gold): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151097&Tpk=400w%20power%20supply The only complaint is it's a bit p...

Re: New HTPC/General purpose build

Hm...that's a good idea, but I think I want a bigger, more powerful setup. Thanks for the input though.

New HTPC/General purpose build

Hey guys, my dad was thinking of getting a Mac Mini, but I took it upon myself to save himself the money and build a much more competent rig for less or the same amount of money. I haven't built an HTPC before, so I dunno if all the components will fit (the measurements of the case seems to allow th...

Re: New case

alright, thanks skier. I'm fairly sure it's a pentium 4 (the ones that have a really high-pitched fan).

I'll do some serious cleaning of dust then.

New case

What's the airflow like on a retail computer? I was thinking about replacing my Lexa S with something more accommodating (better wire management, more space, etc.) and using my Lexa S to house my dad's old Pentium machine. The pentium was in an HP MediaCenter, and the fan is just screaming all the t...

Re: "Coming Soon" Build

If you're going to buy a 955, then i would recommend a Xigmatek Dark Knight. It's in my own system (cooling a 955) and i've never seen the temperature go over 35C.

Re: HDMI Sound

OK, sorry for the delay (school...), but anyway, I have a 22" monitor. I guess I'll have to think about getting a new monitor or something.

HDMI Sound

I have my computer hooked up to my 22" Samsung monitor. Now, I'm using my 4850 w/ an HDMI cable, to use with my monitor, which is DVI-in only. So I used an adapter. Problem is, the sound isn't coming from the HDMI cable, and i have to use the sound jack (green one) on the motherboard's I/O.

ah, sorry for reviving the topic, but does it matter which way you apply TIM on the heat pipes? i'm using AS5 on a Xigmatek DK.

Re: RAMs and those tall heatsinks

I like the ram that has heat spreaders that are about the same size of the module itself (pretty much all the OCZ heat spreaders).

Though I've opened up my case after long gaming sessions (3+ hours) and my RAM was never really that hot. or warm, for that matter.

That's a good point, Major. I'll see what I can make this summer, and plan out an upgrade path from there.

Re: future upgrades?

yes, but i don't think i'll be playing metro 2033 yet..i'm not a survival-horror/post-apocalyptic guy. but would a 5770 be able to run most games at 1680x1050, (most games i'll be playing will probably still be DX10), and would a 460 be overkill? I guess my rig would be more future-resistant with th...

thanks, but i don't think i'll be investing in SSD's anytime soon..but the GTX 460 is a viable option. :)
