I don't think the fundamental problem has been solved. It looks like Nvidia just cranked up the fan speed with 2 monitors. The core clock with 2 LCDs is still 8 times higher than with 1 LCD, the mem clock is 16 times higher, and the shader clock is 8 times higher. The real solution would be to crank...

I have the exact same laptop. It was released in the summer of 2008 and Asus has a standard warranty of 2 years (at least in North America), so you should give them a call and see if they you can get an RMA number. You'll likely loose your laptop for a week or so, but i think that's the least of you...

Don't really care about 2.5D for the moment.
For games, as i might think about it when more developers design for multi screen support.
Other than that, as far as i can tell, ATI and NV are equivalent for 2D multi-monitor, though ATI has the advantage for shear number of cards.
