take out the CMOS battery, turn on your computer, turn your computer off
remove your video card, reset your CMOS jumper with your monitor plugged in the on board VGA port on the back panel of your computer, turn your computer back on
update when finished.

how long do you wait before you realize that the lights on the keyboard aren't working? does your computer make beeps? do your keyboard lights flash at all?

reset the CMOS like i showed, and the default video interface should be PCI
so after you reset it, plug in your video card and hook your monitor up to it, then turn your computer back on.

not all 700 or 800 series chipsets have on board vga or dvi, if they dont have either one of those they would have hdmi

when booting into a recovery disc with XP and on, it shouldn't take you to any command prompt, it should take you to a preliminary screen for formatting your HDD and installing windows, you'll recognize that it looks alot like this: http://apcmag.com/images/apcapc/howto/virtualization-windows_xp_on_...

To completely understand your case, i'd probably have to know a little more about your system to make a good guess. 3GBs of ram might not be enough for your system, I don't know what type of HDD set up you have.
