It'll be a thrill to have it running and I'll certainly post a pic - I might just doc the whole process via pics and post them.

what's CS? I'll be using it to watch porn. Actually, I'll be using it for stock trading simulations. Plus it'll serve as main machine. My current dual Xeon will be backup and I've been helping develop a way to do the simulations via distributed processing so that with both machines humping...

Thanks duudes!! You've sorta talked me into after thinking about it for a while. It seems to be the only way I can get a system that has all of the best components. If you guys will be patient with me I have a digital camera and maybe you could walk me thru the process and/or point to some docs that...

Need help finding system builder

I'm about at my wits end trying to find a company to build me a dual processor capable Opteron dual core system that will incorporate the specific components that I want. The closest I've been able to come is MonarchComputer.com but they have just a few motherboards, power supplies, etc to choose fr...

Thanks!

I was really interested in timings as I'm trying to figure out how much faster I can get with an overclock.

As to why the Super PI - it relates to this thread:

Apoptosis: I'm a little reluctant to try and overclock my xeon machine as its my primary and I can't really afford to have it down or screw it up  So, I'm really leaning towards a new one dedicated to just running the simulations. Its very kind of you to offer to run some tests on your rig(s)...

kenc51 - thanks! And you're right about the forum - I've ready many in my search and this is the only one I've posted to. Apoptosis - I'd read that earlier today and was a primary reason for my first post! Thanks! Could you point me to some articles/posts on how I might get started on a project like...

I got it because I do other things on it as well.

I realize that a mutithreaded app would be nice but I can't force the company to do it. They've been promising long enuf for me to give up waiting.

Ok - current avail hardware is out - but how about something overclocked?

Another noobie with lots of questions..

Hello all, I do a LOT of simulation work involving trading in financial markets (I trade for myself) which results in runs taking as long as 3 days (yep three) on a water cooled dual Xeon 2.8 with 2 gig of memory and nothing else special. The system is 3 years old. The simulations deal with an artif...
