Wondering if an upgrade is worth it...

OK, sorry for this being kinda' long,,, Xmas is coming and I was thinking of setting up a Windows Home Server box. I have my main rig, in my sig, and my son is using my old Shuttle SN95 with an overclocked A64, I also have a 2.8g P4 SB61 Shuttle that is currently unused (was going to set it up for S...

Re: Favorite FPS

I'm assuming that you are playing COD4 on your 360, and Hellgate on your PC, is that correct? I haven't seen anything on a beta testing for COD4 on PC, maybe I just haven't looked around enough. :-k No consoles here, for FPS I just can't get the controls to work right. I believe the COD4 demo for P...

Re: Favorite FPS

Along with "Duke3d" would have to go "Redneck Rampage"... He! He! those were the days :partyman: I just started the COD4 demo and have to admit that I may just get back into FPS after a long haitus. COD and COD2 hooked me as well as all of the HL series, I too never got into Unre...

Re: Squealing Sound from PC

My primary HD recently died, so I installed Win XP on my secondary drive and now I'm getting a squealing sound coming from my PC. My first thought was that I had a fan going out, but that is not the case as I checked each one. I moved a few cables around checking for connection issues or that possi...

Re:

For resolutions that you are talking about i suggest an 8800GTS 320MB, this card seems to me to be the best value DX10 card you can get, and it performs almost exactly the same as the 640Mb counterpart at lower resolutions. The only issue is with the lower resolutions i believe your CPU can affect ...

Re:

I never see rebates on UK sites. Maybe it's a US tax thing? I have noticed that US sites never include tax in their prices, at least that's what i have gathered from looking around at a few US sites. In the UK the prices are almost always displayed with and without VAT and i never see rebates. Here...

well, i'm pretty well shocked i got up to 365 fsb before orthos crashing. from there i went back to the safety of a 333 fsb, i don't want to be crashing my working box to often  cpu temp seems to keep to 10 degrees above ambient (stock voltage) regardless the cpu clock speed and upping th...

While I only have an E6600, my XBX2 overclocked to 3.2G flawlessly, the only addition I made was a Thermaltake Big Typhoon, temps idle kinda' high but cool as a cucumber under load. This is without ANY voltage changes...

I did this in XP (installed Vista from scratch in RAID mode so no worrys there) I didn't mess with the MS driver however, and it's simpler than it looks (note the standard "it worked for me but YMMV so do at your own risk and have a backup" disclaimer applies :) ) All I did was, with the B...

I agree that cache is the least important of the three but if you can get 4meg then so much the better. But to be honest, with the general tech available today in this price range IMHO it's hard to go wrong. Dont skimp on Mobo, PSU, RAM, and GPU as you need to see the system as a "whole". ...

Not to worry, as was stated before "free RAM is wasted RAM". Vista uses "SuperFetch" to cache pieces of apps you frequently run to shorten subsequent load times.

I've got a few of these... 1 - Go for the 6420 2 - The ICE actually works very well but I would go for another case type than the G2 (there's the SD37-P2-BK-V2 with the 975X chipset, the "P-series" case and two x8 PCI-E slots/no PCI). The G2 chassis can be a little noisier than the G5 or P...

I highly reccomend the 8800GTS 320MB...I got the extreme XXX version from XFX because I plan to OC it farther in the future but even at stock setting, this card more than made the soft blow to my wallet well worth it. Also, unless I've REALLY overlooked something (I don't think I have), the 320MB e...

I must second Sparky on the XBX2. The BOX version is $199.00 at TigerDirect and has a 3 year warranty (wherever you get it ensure that it is the BOX and not BLK as the BLK only has a 1 year warranty). Paired with a C2D E6600 I can very easily reach 3.2g at stock voltages and the board is solid as a ...
