Re: OK Decided on new build, what do y'all think?

What cooling did you decide to go with? With your case and the price of the kit this is what I'd look at. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181017 You can always swap out the fans and run a fan controller later. Thats the one! Ordered Sunday should be here today (along with t...

Re: OK Decided on new build, what do y'all think?

I would of recommend: RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231449 - I know its $10 more but it is an excellent RAM and waaay faster than what you picked (18MB/s vs. 28MB/s) - I have a set and can vouch for it. super stable. MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?I...

Re: OK Decided on new build, what do y'all think?

That sucks about the RAM. Couldn't they cross ship you a new set? Kind of a moot point now though. Did you check for a new BIOS? The ASRock board I put together last week had a BIOS update 2 weeks after the initial release. Yeah, but was bound to happen. Never had an issue with the Egg before after...

Re: OK Decided on new build, what do y'all think?

Okey Dokey, The stuff arrived today (kinda') and I got it all put in and/or transferred. Steps follow: 1) Jumped up and down with joy when "Brown" showed up at 1145! 2) It shipped in two seperate boxes from the same warehouse in Jersey? 3) Unloaded everything and began inspection (I cleaned out the ...

Re: Ruh Roh, made a "lack of proper research" blunder!

Yeah, the 4gig kit was on the compatibility list at Asrock for the mobo. Probably just worrying too much. I HATE waiting for "MR. Brown :( )

Re: OK Decided on new build, what do y'all think?

Pics or it didn't happen, kidding. On a side note what is a DAW? DAW - Digital Audio Workstation. I use it to record and mix guitar and such. I was using the old E6600 on a BadAxe 2 but was still getting latency issues, I think the i7 920 will fix that. And I'll post pics as soon as I can find them...

Re: OK Decided on new build, what do y'all think?

Honestly, that cooler is overkill for only 4.2. You should easily be able to hit 4.5 on air with the 2600K. Not trying to deter you at all, just wanted to let ya know. Was thinking that myself and considering an H60, but this thing will be near silent at 4.2 with fans set on low and I like quiet. A...

OK Decided on new build, what do y'all think?

OK, got a bonus and some birthday cash. I am still not as jazzed about upgrades/system builds as I used to be but GAS is a tough addiction to break ;) So, if I decide to build a new system this would be it: Mobo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157264 I've never owned an AS...

Upgrade advice requested (Delimma that is)

My rig is in my signature. I have some spare cash (a rarity these days) and have a choice to make. I can A) Upgrade my existing i7 920 rig and use the mobo, CPU, and RAM for my 16 year old's rig and repurpos his existing E6850 rig for recording music. B) Replace the head unit and XM Onyx receiver in...

Re: Graphics card question.

I'll mostly agree with APOP. A DVI to HDMI adapter will be your cheapest solution if the current GPU fits your needs. That said, if you want a DX 11 card that is somewhat faster for under $100 a 6670 might be a good upgrade (or a 6570 for a little less). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?It...

Re: Getting disappointed lately...

I don't know that I agree 100% although I can see the shift away from the desktop. My 15 year old has a 360 hooked to a 61" DLP with surround and still prefers Steam and PC gaming (along with most of his friends). Other than FPSs he likes classic emulators and casual gaming which all point to the ve...

Re: Is All Tech Support A Joke?

Small update. If you Google 208.67.222.222 it redirects the search to OpenDNS. I'm not trying to get you to connect to something bad. On a side note, they are not working on a new firmware and the problem still persists after changing my DNS servers. If you get a newer Netgear router (and I assume ...

Re: Getting disappointed lately...

The problem here is console games. When I bought my fist gaming card (Geforce 4 Ti 4400) in less than 6 months it was old news. Same thing when I replaced it with a 9800 Pro. Point here is the game development has stagnated a ton. There was no real reason for my purchase of the GTX 460. In terms of...

Getting disappointed lately...

I probably already know the answer to this but, I currently run a Powercolor 5870 PCS + with Catalyst 10.12 (I know I should update) with the rig in my signature. I am pretty happy with it for the games I play (except for Duke Nukem Forever, but that's the game ;( ). So, would I buy anything by upgr...

Re: Macbook Pro vs DELL XPS 15Z

Just me but the Dell is the winner hands down IMHO. You are already $430 down with the Macbook, after avoiding the cost of bumping the RAM and HDD you could get the Dell and a decent sized SSD and it would handily spank the Macbook in performance (once again IMHO). Seems like a high price to pay for...
