Re: WD Red 3TB NAS Hard Drive Review
Almost all my concerns about these beluga drives have been pointed out and answered. Things are moving towards reFS or X-Raid, that aren't actually RAID structures but file systems that allow more than one disk units with redundancy. I think X-Raid its even a file system but its like FlexRAID a data...

Re: WD Red 3TB NAS Hard Drive Review
I agree 100% with him. No mater if its your personal home made videos, pictures, or whatever. Everybody find his stuff important. Rebuild a RAID5 5 drive 3TB its dangerous once one drive has failed, specially if all come from the same lot. W8 and some linux distros come with x-raid or similar disk s...

hmm 400 usd without memory (50-60usd), hard drive (60-100usd (probably ssd) and remote (15-30usd). Isn't that as expensive as a mac mini? Price tag should be around a cheap mobo (nothing to do with size, mini itx are usually have lots of features this is not) + a "cheap" intel chip, that c...

I don't understand the obsession for 2k and 4k displays. Rather than that I would prefer new 50 or 60 fps video content.

Re: NVIDIA Desktop Graphics Processor Roadmap for 2012
I like when they release first the big horses and then the rest. This roadmap really sucks. I'm sure all those 28nm issues made them release first the little brothers to see how actually work. I wouldn't get close to GK107-106 chips.

Re: buy GTX 570 now?
I'll wait. I'm a little bit tired of some of the gtx295 issues, specially driver hangs and resets which leads to change of P state (most 295 owners know what I'm talking about). However runs like a single 570 without DX11 support. I'll see what those new ATI cards can do (7xxx series), but the fact ...

buy GTX 570 (2 for SLI and WC) now?
I want to change my "old" gtx 295 (wc) by a couple of 570 or 580, also wc. I probably change again the card before I change my display so DP is not important to me. I've been following nvidias roadmap and it looks like they've already started their kepler production (may I cite xbitlabs?)...

Re: ASUS ROG MARS 2 3GB Video Card Review w/ NVIDIA Surround
Given you've got the numbers, what about a vs. with 2xGTX580-SLI. That would be the true performance vs. price review. I won't ask for a couple of WC 580 review, because I'm sure would beat that card in performance price and endurance. The big brands should start shipping their high end cards withou...

..or even 3dmark. For 1500$ can't you buy a couple of WC 580, a pump and a radiator?
All these "extreme" designs should come with a WC block or with "no cooling" option.

Re: Windows 8 Video and a Rant
I got on XP until 7 was released and just because 7 offered me some improvements: boot times, 64bit, etc. So who cares about next MS OS? Until 7 gets very old I will use it. Why do you need an OS every 2 years? Its "only" the platform to run your programs or games. MS tries to emulate the ...

Re: SSD, which one?
Given you have ICH10 you could go for a RAID0 to achieve similar to 6GB sata. I've got a pair of Vertex2 E 120GB and had run flawless (rampage 2 extreme). Raid 0 means no TRIM. I say that because maybe its a good money/space/speed combo vs. a single drive. And I don't see the point of a future-proof...

Re: Dell Introduces XPS 15z - Thinnest 15-inch Notebook PC
Price/specs looks good compared to a macbookpro, I wonder if its so reliable on heavy duty. Today I contacted a "dell chat expert" (while browsing dells site to view the different models) to know if these laptops started to use UEFI. He replied it uses "Intel ® Centrino ® Advanced-N 6...

very impressive, but its a mistake to use BIG PSU in low wattage cpus. A big mistake. PSU has a performance that starts low at 1% max-load, increases at about 50% of max-load, and drops again until 100%. Re: RAID 5 Practical In a Desktop?
RAID 5 have more to do with redundancy than speed. You'll have fairly good read speeds, but write speed requires a XOR processing which slow downs speed unless you have a dedicated hardware raid controller. With 4 disks you get the space of 3 and any of the 4 disk can fail without information loss (...
