Re: x38 VS x48 VS p35

I'm going for an e8400 CPU and supposed to be getting an Asus Striker/Maximus class mobo review sample in the near future so I'm strangling my techno lust until I find out for sure. Really with the E8400 I just need a CPU that can clock up and down reliably past 3.6 so they can't say the GTX-260/280...

Re: x38 VS x48 VS p35

Yea p43/45 is out but I didn't see any ddr2/3 boards. The p35 boards get finicky with ddr3, of the two I listed I'd probably look at the MSI board because the raid suxxors on the Asus and it gets finicky with ddr3 at higher freqs. The Foxconn I'd have to see some solid reviews on before I jumped. Me...

Re: x38 VS x48 VS p35

I checked and didn't even see any p43/45 boards that do ddr2/ddr3. I did find one Foxconn x38 that does ddr2/ddr3 but the ddr3 specs say 1333mhz ddr3. I haven't had personal experience with the board but you might find some reviews on it. People are saying Foxconn is making a return to the enthusias...

Re: x38 VS x48 VS p35

I can't go much into the comparisons end but I've had good luck with the Asus P5KC dual ram Mobo, I've run the Q6600 up to 3.6 on it and Mushkin 12800 at full speed 1600 MHZ (up to 1752 stable). It gets picky about Ram at higher freqs and you gotta spend some time tweaking it. It comes in around $15...

Insanely sweet performance. Might have to look into one when the kinks get worked out.

Re: Conroe-L, is it for me?

Yea bud I have an E2180 sitting right in front of me in the testing rig and even on a Crud Gigabyte Intel 9xx chip set I hit 2.9 easily. After 2.9 I have to tweak out the ram and voltage settings to run it at 3.2. It's a hot little bugger though and the Stock Intel cooler won't cut it past 2.5, and ...

Re: CMOS anomaly

I've seen a couple come out of the box and CMOS wouldn't hold. Buddy has an Oscilloscope and we tracked it down to (on 3 boards) the CMOS battery not being able to send power to the chip. Battery would be fine, power just wasn't getting through. Faulty battery can do it, dead battery can but that's ...

Re: Conroe-L, is it for me?

It'll be a little sluggish compared to the dual cores. They run well enough but if your used to dual core I'd stretch and get an E2180 800 FSB dually. I've clocked 2 in a row up to 3.2 and clock for clock they do almost as well as the 6750. They are $69 but you'll be less tempted to replace it down ...

Re: Maybe I shouldn't complain

If it's a Laser and there's a print sharing switch or device involved those can jack up a Laser pretty easy. Some Lasers network shared can just stop printing and stand alone they print great, put them back to the network and they don't print. Never have figured the issue out but I've seen it on 4 o...

I got FF3 on day one and haven't had a problem with it yet. Fortunately it didn't kill my bookmarks or any thing else nasty. Couple of addins need updating.

Re: June 2008 Forum Drawing - XFX GeForce 9600 GT Graphics Card

Nates awesome, if people only knew the time and effort involved with the reviews, coding, running a web site, doing the contests, trips, vendor contacts , and trying to have half a life they wouldn't complain. Besides I don't come for the contests, I come for the content. The contests are just icing...

Actually I was doing them for Frags but things were taking to long to get posted, I'm finishing a couple for Frags and doing the nVidia release for Bjorn3D.

Re: New CPU?

It's exciting until you have to spend 30 hours on the board and another 30 on the GPU to do a proper article on them. By the end of that you don't even want to look at it for a few days.

Re: New CPU?

Well the quad is staying at least until the new Quads hit the market on the new socket, depending on price probably a while longer. I built a test rig some Gigabyte Intel Chip set low end board with an E2180 which is doing well enough, but the 2180 is a seller and never intended as more than a temp ...

New CPU?

I'm looking at CPUs this week, Specifically I already have the Q6600 so I'm looking in the $200 range Intel. I'm thinking E8400 cause it's like 10 bucks more than the E8200. 45nm design is a must, 1333 FSB cause 1600 FSB under $575 is a dream, LGA 775. It's going to be paired with an Asus Board of u...

Re: XFX xXx 8800GT Or 3850 Cross fire?

RX280/260 are on the verge of release, the 260 is rumored to be reasonably priced. (under 3 bills) the features are awesome and they have physics built in. No way I'm getting another card not in that line.

Re: Friday the 13th

That's what I wanted to do Bio, but there was a version of Oracle on there with a butt load of company data and no one could find the Oracle disks. Other wise it'd have been a reload in a minute.

Lesson number one: Never let the kids use your work laptop for Limewire.
