future upgrades?
After the launch of the GTX 460, and hex-core processors, I've been wondering what some good upgrades I can get would be. My machine still supplies more than enough muscle for my purposes, but with the new graphics engines (Metro 2033, anyone?) being released, i can't help but think of upgrading. So...

Re: Pins are bent
well, the customer support guy (AMD has top-notch service, i got redirected three times, but the whole thing took about 10 minutes. :D ) said that if the damage was how i described it (5-10 pins bent, nothing else) then i would get RMA'd and a new one would be shipped back. now all i need to do is g...

Pins are bent
First off, can I RMA my 955 BE and replace it? Because this all started when I decided to replace the stock cooler with a Dark Knight, and as I was trying to take out the stock HS/F, the processor came out with it, stuck to the bottom. Uh oh. So after 5 minutes, I managed to pry off the CPU (with a ...

My Xigmatek Dark Knight should be coming soon in a week or so (sorry guys, i'll order from the link next time. #-o ) and I saw some articles out on some other sites saying that having the heat pipes facing from front to back (with the fan exhausting out the top) was better than having it so the fan ...

best cooling under 50?
i am thinking about upgrading my stock AMD HSF that came with my 955, and don't want to spend a whole lot of money. especially when i'm not planning on setting any overclocking records, so i don't need the noctua cooler i was looking at.. also, do the tower coolers put too much of a strain on the mo...

Re: What is the minimum recommended specs to fold?
well you can't fold on oboard graphics, and anything less than a dualcore wouldn't bring in many points, but you can fold on any CPU in a system that is stable as far as ATI discrete graphics(a video card like 5770,5750 etc), they have the short end of the stick as far as folding goes, nvidia cards...

I'll probably get the XFX then.
And apparently some of Sapphire's Vapor-X 5770's had a defective BIOS that disabled 80 of the 800 shaders.

Reference Cooling
Is the Batmobile good enough to cool a 5770/5850? Rather, should I get a Vapor-X which cools better but keeps warm(er) air INside the case, or should I get myself a reference cooler from, let's say, XFX and have it exhaust OUT of the case? And is the "720 Unified Shader" deal still happeni...

if you want a really fast HDD, WD has 300gb Velociraptors (10,000RPM) for about 200 bucks on newegg.

Re: SMP?
alright, but it says that overclocking will crash my system. I have a pair of AMD BE RAM from OCZ, and they're factory clocked at DDR3 1600MHz, but sometimes my computer says "overclocking failed" at startup..does setting RAM from the "auto" setting to a specific speed count as o...

You could always get an HX750. Exactly the same (cept the price) plus, it's modular too.skier wrote:i can't argue against a single one of those parts, great choices!
only thing is make sure you know the TX750 has a ton of cables

well, right after a two-hour long gaming session of Borderlands (16x AA, no dynamic shadows, 1680x1050) my temps were hovering around 50 degrees, so it must have worked. and i did some cable management.

Re: voltage/temps
I think you need to find out what is going on now. There is no way that your CPU should be idling that high even with the stock cooler. What are the average ambient temperatures where your chassis is located? I believe I recommended this before, look for a BIOS update, try different monitoring appl...
