Re: NETGEAR Nighthawk Pro Gaming XR500 WiFi Router Review

Thanks! How has your wireless been, or do you even use it as such? I have the same charter 200mbps service that you have, just wondering how that translates to number of devices going at the same time... we have three 1080i tvs that I'd like to switch to streaming along with my son on his xboxone do...

Re: NETGEAR Nighthawk Pro Gaming XR500 WiFi Router Review

Now that you've had this router for 10 months, do you have any updated insights on it's range and effectiveness? How many updates has DumaOS made to the OpSys since you've had it, perhaps features added? Still your top choice for under $300?

Too early for wirelessAX router?

Been researching routers, some of the newest with wireless AX look promising with MU-MIMO and anywhere between 8 and 12 streams...to be honest I doubt I'll have any AX adapters for a while yet, so I would just be using it on AC and N mode. The only problem with getting an older router is that they a...

Re: Network Adapter Works in Win8.1 but not Win7

Thanks. I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling both with and without reboot. Sometimes it shows the ethernet controller in device manager without a yellow hazard mark and with no driver installed, and when I try to install any driver (even the one MS Update wants to install) it then give...

Network Adapter Works in Win8.1 but not Win7

I have a weird issue. My onboard LAN network adapter (Realtek 8111E Gigabit) stopped working in Windows 7. I get the Microsoft "Code 1" even after I uninstall the adapter then try to reinstall drivers, I even pulled out the old MOBO driver disk to install the original driver, it won't install any dr...

Re: MicroSD cards for phones

Hmmm I was not really thinking SanDisk but I'm glad you guys recommended it because I was looking at the Samsung EVO cards. I'll check out the SanDisks, thanks for the info!

Re: Upgrading HP17 series laptop

I cloned the drive over. I had previously created a partitioned primary drive (Drive letter E) for her to store media separately from the O/S partition/primary drive (Drive letter C, with Drive letter D being an optical drive) which interfered with using the over-provisioning tool included with Cruc...

MicroSD cards for phones

My old 8GB Samsung MicroSDHC card starting glitching and is now showing as corrupted. I was able to save my data using EaseUS Data Recovery and the phone wants to reformat it but I'm thinking it may be time to upgrade if that card is degrading. What MicroSD cards do you use in your phones? I current...

Re: Upgrading HP17 series laptop

The i7-4702MQ is the fastest on the compatibility list for the HP 17-e019dx laptop so I looked it up on ebay and found that one listed. I'm going to wait and see how it runs after the new SSD goes in to decide whether it needs one more upgrade. I know it's old, but nothing newer for under $600 or so...

Re: DNS Servers

Hey Nate, if you don't mind when you are at home on your Spectrum Internet, do me a favor please and run your ipconfig/ all command to see which DNS servers that Spectrum is using as default. Thanks!

Re: Upgrading HP17 series laptop (HP 17-e019DX)

Ta-Da! I decided to take a chance on the dual band wireless card AC7250 HMW (part referenced as 784650-005), the top card on Nate's test list in that particular review. I guess we got lucky that HP didn't have a whitelist on this Pavilion 17 Lappie, either that or perhaps just because it was from th...

Re: Upgrading HP17 series laptop

The 7260BN card looks to be the best of the supported internal ones, but as with the others is only single band. To use USB it would have to be one of the little button type adapters (like for a wireless mouse) and would need to have both dual band wifi and Bluetooth to be optimal. She doesn't want ...

Re: Samsung 860 QVO SSD Review – 1TB/2TB Drives Tested @ Legit Reviews

I'm looking for a 1TB SSD to put into my daughter's HP laptop. Would you consider the lower price of this unit (at today's current price on Amazon) to be worth the savings over the more expensive drives, ie: price savings are worth more than the performance hit? SAM 860 QVO........$107 WD Blue.........

Upgrading HP17 series laptop

My daughter has a HP Pavilion 17-e019dx laptop that we can get a few more years out of with some upgrades. I am looking at 500GB SSDs to replace the 750GB 5400rpm mechanical drive, and getting another 4GB memory module to upgrade the memory to 8GB. The wifi card it came with sucks, it is a single-ba...

So far I like the UBPro, but I wish it had a kickstand. I don't know which kind to get for it that will not add more bulk to the thickness of the phone. I have the Moto G6.

Re: Network demands for mulitiple streaming devices

One thing I can say, I wish I knew then what I know now. When I built 20 years ago, I had coax cable and phone line wired to bedrooms, living room, kitchen. Still use the coax for cable internet, but the phone lines are useless, only running one line to kitchen now where wireless base is and have ha...

Re: Network demands for mulitiple streaming devices

Yeah I had a feeling that my router even as old as it is should be able to handle what I have going. I was just afraid that the extra demands of streaming TV would put it at the limit. Everybody has a tv going at any given time, while also playing on their phones or game consoles. I myself have the ...

Network demands for mulitiple streaming devices

How do I tell what my network demands are for X amount of streaming devices? I've got the 200mbps Spectrum, and an AC1200 dual band router. When I get the cord cut, I will need to use internet for streaming for at least 4 TVs, 3 phones, an XBox One, an XBox 360, and at least 4 PCs. I assume my Spect...
