Re: What Spider Did I Just Kill - has orange on the belly??

Nate I've had those spiders in my home every year since we built in '98. The first few years they were everywhere, I'd be sitting in the living room watching TV and see one or two walking across the carpet nonchalantly. My cat even lost interest in them because he got used to them. At first I didn't...

Re: EVGA GTX 400 Series High-Flow Exhaust Bracket Review

Actually, I have to ask. Were you using the Extreme Burning Mode? In all honesty I wanted to make it the worst case scenario and if it would reduce the top end temperature at all. Many ways to test it, but at the end of the day it took more than a full 8 hour work day just to run these tests in the...

Re: EVGA GTX 400 Series High-Flow Exhaust Bracket Review

One degree drop isn't worth purchasers' buying it separately (even just for S&H), but it is worth the manufacturers' adopting the design for future use since they can do so for no extra charge. A win-win for both parties.

Re: New Computer

If you want to save a little money you can get by with 2Gb of ram, i would kind of avoid Gskill ram. My computer with has 2gb Crucial Memory installed and registers 2gb whilst my brother has 2gb Gskill memory but only registers 1.78gb. so thats a little fishy. Also if you are using a 32bit operatin...

Re: Club 3D Radeon HD 4350 PCI-E x1 Video Card

Ahhh, I see. The reason I have these is that I bought a Gigabyte 4350 OC awhile back, and recently inherited a XFX 4350 and since the 2 mobos I have now have HD4290 and HD4200 onboard I figured they weren't really much of a boost over the onboard. I thought that if I could crossfire them using the 8...

Re: Club 3D Radeon HD 4350 PCI-E x1 Video Card

Yep, you're right. I dug out my mobo manual and find that it supports ATI Hybrid CrossfireX, and makes no mention of any cables needed. I'm not sure what CrossfireX does, can you clue me in?

Re: Club 3D Radeon HD 4350 PCI-E x1 Video Card

DON'T LAUGH at this question...

What if you have two 4350's laying around and wanted to Crossfire them? Would it boost performance at all? is it even worth buying a crossfire cable to do so?

OK, after thinking about it I guess you can laugh now...

Re: SilverStone Grandia GD05 HTPC Case Review

Nice! I like its shallow depth for fitting into E-centers for use as an HTPC. Also plenty of venting to allay heat issues. PIA about the fan filters though, my house is prone to dust so every 3-4 months would have to break down to clean. Otherwise pretty cool case!

Re: 8-pin mobo connector

The 4 pin will work on a 8 pin board. I just came across this a couple of days ago. Hmmm got a link? Since I already ordered it and its on the way the info will be for future reference but it is still good to know. I did notice though that plugging in 2x4pins wouldn't work, the 4 pin fit when plugg...

Re: What is the minimum recommended specs to fold?

Cool. I 'm not running any kind of vmware or anything like that, like I said it will just mainly be videditing on that box and not every minute so if I can pause then resume later that will work out. I actually have 3 OS's on that box, one is my original XP-32bit on one hard drive, then a dual-boot ...

Re: What is the minimum recommended specs to fold?

I was thinking the videditing box would be a good candidate because it is downstairs in the coolest part of the house so it is easiest to cool and I don't run videditing 24/7 anyway. Once the parts I'm waiting for get here and I can get them all up and running, I will test out the SMP you referred t...

Re: What is the minimum recommended specs to fold?

Well, I have a Phenom X2 555 (unlocks to 3 cores) on an 890 ATX I built for videditing that has the 4290 onboard and an Enermax 500w PSU in a sniper case, I have a 785 mATX board with a Phenom X2 550 (was skiers so is pretty strong and may unlock as well) and HD4000? onboard that will go into my HTP...

What is the minimum recommended specs to fold?

I was just reading some of the posts in here, it looks like the entire system determines your folding power ie: PSU, CPU, and Video Card. What is the minimum recommended specs for all those parts to be a good folder?

Re: 8-pin mobo connector

Hmmm, should I assume that the dual molex > 8pin adapter is the better way to go since it will spread the power draw over 2 molex's rather than forcing the 4 pin to cover the power requirements? Or will it matter?

On one hand that sounds better but I trust OKGear more than Logisys so...
