Re: WinXP for an HTPC? or Win7?

Does the MC in Win7 play BR ripped .mkv files? I know that WMP standard that comes with WinXP won't, so does that mean M$ supports the .mkv container in Win7?

Re: WinXP for an HTPC? or Win7?

Ahhh I see. I won't have my TV/cable hooked in to record from, only hooked to so I can watch ripped files--right now it will just be a high-octane file player. I will want to add a HD tuner card sometime in the future to do that but right now I have other needs to fill first as I can find/scavenge t...

Re: WinXP for an HTPC? or Win7?

This HTPC will be a 785 mobo with a Phenom X2 550BE in it and cooled by a X4 955BE heatsink/fan. Case will be an MicroFly cube case, so I have to worry about temps. I will try to unlock the other cores just to see if I can, but I may have to underclock whatever I do to keep the temps down. I don't k...

WinXP for an HTPC? or Win7?

I can't decide whether to go with easy old WinXP, or put Win7 on my HTPC. What do you suggest?

Re: Advice please about upgrade from single to dual core

Cool. Well, the 785 mobo I was waiting for arrived so I'll put this in a case and give it its own fresh install then if you think that it is probably still good. I was hoping the x2 5400+ would be strong enough for 1080 files but it appears to not have enough ooomph so I'll turn it into my torrent/s...

Advice please about upgrade from single to dual core

Hello I decided to condense the post to a nutshell, since I tend to ramble. I took a harddrive out of a skt 654 single-core system and put it in a AM2 system with an X2 5400+ CPU. It did boot to windows, which surprised me a bit. Although 2 processors show in Device manager and all other pertinent p...

"Human Bird" Tues Nite June 8th 9PM Central on Animal Planet

There is a special on wingsuits ("Human Bird"). For those that don't know they are the special suits that lets a human glide like Rocket J Squirrel (well, almost). This guy Jeb Corliss can glide down a mountainside at high velocity skimming just feet (sometimes inches!) over the terrain. I...

Re: Nearly a Dozen Hummingbirds Drinking During A Storm

We were one of the first few people building homes in our section of our subdivision in OFallon (back in 1999) and I had hummingbirds visiting regularly. Then more houses were built and many of the people started their own hummingbird feeders so with all the competition they quit coming to ours. Oh ...

Re: Computex 2010: Booth Babes

To quote Blazing Saddles... Where all the white women at? Asian women have never really done it for me. They are all thin but what do expect eating fish heads and rice? Most of them are built like 12 year old boys. I don't know about that, they still look like wimmenz ta me...I'd have no problem go...

Re: Zotac IONITX-A-U Mini-ITX Ion Motherboard Review

Yeah, my reason for wanting it at the time is I was looking for a mini-itx board with an onboard grpahics solution to fit in my old flex-atx shuttle box (or old Ice Cube, either one) to use as an htpc but I found a MicroFly Cube the fits in my entertainment center (barely) so I am able to move up to...

Re: Zotac IONITX-A-U Mini-ITX Ion Motherboard Review

Since you have this board, how accurate are the claims of Blue-ray decoding over the hdmi? I heard that the ION even with a dual-core mighty mite (my name for the n330's) still is only effective for 720p on medium-sized TV's. I was jonesing for one of these when they first came out because I thought...
