Re: nVidia's next-gen GeForce to be called GTX 470 and 480
GTX 480 looks like a more powerful name than GTX 380. At least it does to me anyway. Perhaps I'm just surprised at the jump in numbers they decided upon.

Re: NVIDIA GeForce GF100 Fermi Video Card Facts
Interesting how it's 4xx instead of 3xx. Will 3xx be reserved for lower-end and rebranded cards? I'm excited about the anti-aliasing that they have. Now that their implementation of anti-aliasing is more efficient, I'm hoping to use it in more games (then again, if I had a 4xx card, I'd already have...

Re: Windows XP takes forever to shutdown.
Okay, here's an update. I was changing my graphics drivers and when graphics drivers were uninstalled, my machine went through the shutdown process perfectly fine. I then ran the driver installer and when I rebooted my machine, the same problem came up. I'll have to play around with the graphics, I ...

Re: Windows XP takes forever to shutdown.
Well if that were the case, wouldn't Windows 7 also take forever to shut down? I forgot to mention that I also have Windows 7 installed (didn't think it would matter).

Well Sony did patent a method of manipulating your brain back in 2005, so this isn't surprising of Sony.

Re: AMD ddr3 or intel ddr3
I say go with AMD. While it's true that Intel has the edge in performance, I don't think that affects gaming as much as having a great GPU, so the premium is probably not worth it.

Heh, not bad. It didn't turn out as lame as I'd thought it'd be.

This would be awesome in a Grand Theft Auto type game. Perhaps with this, they could make Grand Theft Auto: World.

Windows XP takes forever to shutdown.
In fact, just pressing the power button from the start menu makes the computer hang (before any of the options to shut down, restart, or sleep/hibernate come up). Then I have to ctrl+alt+del and shutdown from there. That works but it takes up to maybe five minutes just to shut down (or even restart)...

Re: Intel Smoke-engine demo - Windows Vista versus 7
Is Intel still trying to push the CPU as a major player in graphics? I remember they also had a mass particles demo perhaps a year before. Either way, they're fighting an uphill battle, especially with things like DirectCompute, OpenCL, and CUDA. While smooth multithreading on CPU is nice, I don't t...

Re: Nvidia Physx
It's too bad there aren't any games that actually use PhysX affecting gameplay. I know there's CellFactor: Revolution, but apparently that doesn't work with Nvidia PhysX. So for now we're stuck with flashy effects, which are cool, but nothing game-changing. I loved the effects in Mirror's Edge. Too ...

Re: NVIDIA GF100 versus GeForce GTX 285 Video Card in Far Cry 2
Here's a comparison....I don't need more than 1 GPU to hit 30+ fps in Far Cry 2...I do with Crysis...even on my current rig....2 years later than it was released..how is that optimized? lol.. :toimonster: You have ignored almost the entirety of my post. The point is that Crysis pulls off a lot more...

Re: NVIDIA GF100 versus GeForce GTX 285 Video Card in Far Cry 2
Crysis is definitely the best-looking game out there, even though it came out two years ago. If you don't think so aesthetically, the game is still at least the most accomplished technically. Crysis is quite optimized, it just does a lot of things that you may or may not notice which put it on a lev...

Re: Nvidia Physx
Isn't there a mode that lets you dedicate one of the cards to PhysX only? Would that mean the card is just inactive during non-PhysX games?
