Those are somewhat outdated news pieces.
Lynnfield (Nehalem mainstream QC) won't have an iGPU. Havendale (Nehalem value DC) does. I wonder if the iGPU will be some variant of the infamous Intel GMAs...

Re: new card for kids computer
I reckon 8800GT should be... plenty for the games this rig will be used for. Simply awesome value for $130...
I just can't believe I paid around $400 (270€) for one just 6 months ago...

Re: Portal O_O
An awesome game. It could be longer though...
Sometimes it made me feel sooo stupid as I often found myself pondering on a problem that seemed impossible until you did realise:
"Wait a minute, I can actually do this. I do have a freaking portal gun for crying out loud!"

Re: Triple-Channel Memory Coming With Intel X58 Express Chipsets
I bet those memory module builders are simultaneously exited and terrified by trichannel . You're looking at increased sales but also, a nasty RMA problem; people buy trichannel kits and as always, there will be faulty modules... Now, instead of 2 stick going back to RMA you now are getting 3 sticks...

I think these are for ultraportable devices rather than normal laptops - and, if I'm not mistaken, these chips have a PATA interface instead of FLASH.

Re: ATI Radeon HD 4870 and 4850 Pictured
HD4850 looks impressive just because it's a single slot... I really, really like ATi cards in a technical sense as the the red circuit boards always appear to be so much smarter than nVIDIA's. Radeons always have the power regulation components cleanly laid out with finesse, whereas nVIDIA's boards ...

Re: ?? Embarrassing: *WHICH* GTS 8800 ??
This might not be the best time to buy a 8800GTS 512MB as there's some new chippery coming within just couple weeks. G92 will be shrinked to 55nm so 8800GTS 512MB will soon become extinct as it will be replaced with 9800GT 512MB with the new G92b 55nm core. But if you insist on buying a 8800GTS, I'd...

+1 for abit for not stuffing a heatpipe-rollercoaster on it.
Simple heatsink makes life so much easier for watercooling folks like me that like to put a block on the MCH.
Heatpipes are evil.

Re: Fusion evolution prediction
Unfortunately Fusion will be just a 45nm K10 (Shanghai) coupled with an IGP. Originally it was supposed to be based on an entirely new CPU core architecture dubbed Bulldozer. Apparently Bulldozer got delayed by some years due to financials. See page 16: http://download.amd.com/Corporate/MarioRivasDe...

Re: ATI's Upcoming R700 GPU's Tape Out - Radeon 4000 Series
This is very bad news!
Latest ATi product launches have taken place 9-12 months after core tape-out. If R700 taped out just recently then launch can be expected in 4Q 2008.

Re: A-DATA Memory Announcing DDR3 and 1900MHz kits
DDR3-1900 @ tCL9
Latency-wise equals:
DDR2-844 @ tCL4
But with double theoretical bandwidth.
2.05-2.15v STOCK voltage! Uh-oh...
Luckily, DDR3 doesn't get as scorchy as DDR2 when overvolted.

Runs fine on Q6600 @ 3.6GHz & 8800GTS 320 @ ~50% overclock with medium-to-high settings.
Can't get AA to work though.

Re: Orthos - CPU Tests fine - Memory not
You might want to try this prog, it's a very intensive Windows based RAM stress tester:
http://hcidesign.com/memtest/
Make sure you run 2 instances of it with ~equal amount of RAM assigned for each.

Re: How to enable AMD's Cool'n'Quiet feature in Vista
OC'ing and C'n'Q don't conflict each other.
You just need some time setting it up - and forget AMD's own C'n'Q driver.
Use RMClock instead.
