Re: New Build

Are you planning on keeping anything from your current PC to reuse? What resolution are you planning on gaming at? Here's a few suggestions: 1) Get an i5 or an i7. If you are building the machine purely for gaming then the i7 isn't going to make a difference. Typically the difference between the two...

Re: Adding a SATAIII Controller Card

He probably loads AIDA for hardware monitoring and/or the Sensor Panel. If you've never done this before I'd recommend you do Disk Cleanup and delete Windows Update Cleanup. I did this on my mom's computer while at her place on Thanksgiving and it cleaned up close to 30GB of junk. The less space use...

Re: Adding a SATAIII Controller Card

On your SATA 2/wireless computer do you have any network shares that load with Windows? I've found that loading Windows with wireless shares at least doubles the load times. I'm using a SATA 3 SSD on an Intel P35 SATA 2 board and load Windows in under 30 seconds. As soon as I add a network share it ...

Download it if you want their latest software that has updates from 2013. http://www.lucidlogix.com/free_upgrade.shtml This offer is valid until Ja...

We're All Nuts... According to Law Enforcement

I was over at the local newspaper's site and ran across pictures from the Sandy Hook tragedy. There are a ton of them showing pictures of video games and computer parts. So in their eyes we're all nuts. I picked a few to show you guys/gals. http://www.chron.com/news/slideshow/Photos-from-the-Sandy-H...

Re: AMD Radeon R9 290X Press Sample Versus Retail

Press cards probably = cherry picked parts and highly optimized BIOS files. Retail cards = whatever part they put on it and a "safe" BIOS file. I hate this new dynamic clock crap. The only thing I want is a low power state and a high performance state. If the card can't handle the heat the...

Re: ECS GANK Drone Z87H3-A3X L337 Gaming Motherboard Review

Nice performance but I just can't get past the name ECS. But things can change. When Hyundai first came to America it was a known fact that it was pure junk. But now it's a respectable/reputable brand. But like Hyundai, ECS has to have a string of good boards to get me to change my mind. The worst p...

Re: Looking to upgrade GPU

Here's a good place to start.

I used a HD 6990 as a reference since I can't pick a card and then choose Crossfire. But in all reality a HD 6990 is two HD 6970s on one PCB.

It's $20.99 at Amazon if it's still something you want to try. But given what it is and what you want if for I still say skip it.

Re: PCI Express 2.0 Versus PCI Express 3.0 on GeForce GTX 76

I saw from other articles that there wasn't a noticeable drop in performance and no drop in some cases. I didn't ask the question but it is spot on with the last few upgrades I did. Went from Z68 to a Z77 and kept my 2600K. Then a few weeks later I bought a GTX 760 to replace the GTX 570 that was in...

Re: Adding a SATAIII Controller Card

Probably won't see much improvement. Some older systems won't give you the option to boot from a PCIe card. Care to send the link to the card on the Egg? I'm curious to see what chipset it's using (Marvell, ASMedia, etc...).

Re: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 760 4GB Video Card Review - 2GB or

Until 4K monitors come down in price this isn't an issue for me any time soon. Thanks for uploading the chart, a single HD 7970 is killing the GTX 760 in SLI. I know running in SLI doesn't double the memory capacity but I was hoping that maybe the added horsepower would make up for the limitation. T...

New GPGPU Benchmark - AIDA64

Yesterday AIDA64 was updated to v4 and now includes a GPGPU benchmark. I ran it on a few computers and here's what I got.

Re: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 760 4GB Video Card Review - 2GB or

Quick question. I see in your conclusion that the GTX 760 is too slow for 4K gaming regardless of memory buffer. So if you run 2 GTX 760s in SLI would the 2GB buffer be a detriment or would it be good enough?
