Re: Did Bill Gates Just Say Windows Sucks?
Um actually Vista does have a kernel that is very different from that of XP. That's why it takes more resources and so many of the programs had to be "adjusted" to work with it properly. My biggest complaint is from things like trying to copy a large set of files from one hard disk to anot...

Re: 64bit ... 32 bit ... vista/xp, mind exploding!
I use Vista 32 bit and have 4 gb of ram, although Vista does not recognize, drops down to 3gb. I still don't understand the difference and what works with the 64 bit version. Does anyone know if MS will issue an update to the 32 bit that will allow for more ram? To answer your question: No, Microso...

Re: Best OS for Gaming
I currently have the x86 version of Vista installed on my "game box", and XP MCE installed on my general purpose machine. Now the only game I've tried that had both DX9 and DX10 capabilities is Hellgate: London. In that case, I just have to say that DX10 isn't all that great. The extra fea...

Re: Minimum Assassin's Creed Specs Surpass Crysis
Thing is, people will find out it is cheaper to buy a game console rather than keeping on shelling out hundreds of dollars at least once a year to keep the video up to date. I never liked consoles till I realised that every game made for a console will ALWAYS work with that console. No upgrading of...

Re: are u divx enabled.
I believe my DVD ROM drives are both DivX enabled. But since Vista is not DivX friendly... (*deep sigh) The more I think about it the more motivated I become to acquire one of the few remaining copies of XP.

Re: Futuremark Announces the Futuremark Games Studio
...This includes games and their engines that deliver stellar performance even on modest platforms... Hmmm, that will be interesting to see. I normally think of Futuremark products as being stuffed with leading edge effects but not being very highly optimized, much like Crysis turned out to be. Wha...

Re: Leaving a comp on 24/7?
In the past I used to leave my computers on 24/7, or close to it. The cost of the electricity wasn't a factor, and I believed this would be less stressful on the components. In fact this might be true, but I don't keep most components (or systems for that matter) more than maybe 2.5-3 years. The one...

Re: [RANT] Ron Paul, Politics and Seriously WTF?
I'll admit I have a minuscule attraction to Ron Paul's rhetoric. Specifically I appreciate the idea of denegrating the media for their bias, which we all have but they categorically deny. Then again I grew up "in the middle of nowhere", or the "back-side of beyond", and I habitua...

Re: ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 (R680) Pictured in CrossFire
So this is ATI's new high end card? :-k This reminds me of the brute force approach that 3Dfx tried right before they tanked. Yeah, I know, Nvidia tried it as well. It caused problems with heat, and drivers, and was generally a big mess. So why is it when ATI does this everyone heralds it like "...

Re: Is AMD Really a Sinking Ship? AMD Phenom Is Around The Bend
*After a release of the GPGPU today I just had to make further comments. As I see it, the biggest problem for AMD at the moment is the debt they incurred by acquiring ATI. So to survive they have to start making a profit. And as Duke3d87 points out ... there is some pretty stiff competition. This ap...

Re: Is AMD Really a Sinking Ship? AMD Phenom Is Around The Bend
There is one small issue with the article that should be corrected: Just this week AMD's master distributor, ISA Hardware leaked out Phenom pricing and has shows the preliminary prices as $247, $278 and $288 respectively for the processor in a box versions of the the 2.2GHz 9500, 2.3Ghz 9600 and 2.4...

Re: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT Video Card Preview
If I had the ~$560 for two of these I'd buy em! =P~ See I just got a new X38 Chipset board, and have twin SyncMaster 226BW displays. This is about perfect for running 1680x1050. My current 8800GTS would be fine if I had just one display, and I was thinking about buying a second card to run the secon...

I may get one of these by the end of next month, just for my secondary system. (After the price drops a bit more.) But for my primary I'll still get a reasonably priced 8800GTX. Oh and to Nvidia, for the 8800 Ultra :finga: (what a bunch of MORONS!!) It's a shame that some of these Harvard MBAs could...

I tend to suspect that, even though Asus built that board with 4 PCI-e slots, they didn't intend for the board to support 4 top of the line graphics cards. Now I am not familiar with recent Nvidia boards. But my Asus A8R32-MVP does allow me to configure my X16 slots for use with various types of PCI...

just remember this is an estimate and not exact, it over calculates high Ok, that's good to know. In the future I might indeed try to use a second video card in one of my systems.
