No video on my HP laptop
Years ago one of my employees gave me a pin that read "I finally got my head together, now my ass falls apart". That's the way I feel with these laptops. The old Dell is working now the HP acts up. I just replaced the hard drive on my HP G62-341NR and a couple of months later I have no vid...

Re: Routers routers rah rah rah
You're correct: New modem/router->old 10/100 router->old switch->clients & server. I know all the PCs and the server have gigabit NICs in them. The problem is when I take the old router out of the loop and go directly from the Time Warner modem/router to the switch, I get no Internet and barely ...

Routers routers rah rah rah
I do not claim to be any great shakes when it comes to networks and I certainly have only the barest of understanding of the OSI Model but I just do not understand what's happening here. I take care of the network at Village Hall here where I live and ordinarily it's really not that much of a chore....

Re: My mad experiment
Still could not get it to work. Card must be dead. That's the only thing I can figure. Did not try HP card. Just said to hell with it and bought a sub-$10 USB dongle from Amazon that works like a charm. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003MTTJOY/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The only...

Re: My mad experiment
Hmmmm. I wondered if the card was bad but before I reinstalled the OS I'm 99.9% sure it was working. The reason I did a clean install is because I was getting constant BSOD "IRQL not less or equal" or something to that effect. Dell & MSoft both pointed to recent hard-/software install ...

Re: My mad experiment
I should have mentioned I tried the driver from Dell. I even looked at the original specs to verify which card was installed. It's the Broadcom Mini-PCI 1350 or 1370. Not sure off the top of my head. For some reason Windows won't find the driver automatically. If I take it by the hand and lead it to...

My mad experiment
Ok, I have nothing better to do. Actually I'm on disability & I'm cheap. In any event, I put 7 on a 2005 Dell latitude d600 laptop. I can't get the wireless card driver to work. What's more bizarre is that it would not work when I tried it on XP either. Wondering whether I should try a USB wirel...

Re: Galaxy S4 v HTC One
Thanks sgkean. Sorry, I've been under the weather since about the 3rd. Can't seem to shake this crap. I got an Urban Armor Tech case but I'm not real sure about it as it really has nothing to protect that uber-vulnerable big screen. I'll definitely take a look at Ballistic. I saw Otterbox cases at W...

Re: Galaxy S4 v HTC One
Great! Thanks! I was wondering if putting a case on it would help, guess it does! Headed out tonight to Bills v Lions at the Ralph. Sucks that EJ's out for at least a couple more weeks but our "Cheap Fitz" took himself out last week with another concussion which is the biggest contribution...

Galaxy S4 v HTC One
Hi all, Don't know if this is the place for this question so feel free to move it. (Like you need my permission! ) Anyway, I'm on the precipice of getting a new phone and had been jonesing, if that's a word, for an S4 but after reading a number of reviews I'm wondering if the HTC One might not...

Re: ThinkPad predicament
egloeckle, I remember when I was in my first job as a programmer in '98-99 hearing about how tough the ThinkPads were. I was coding RPG IV and CL on an AS/400 and the CIO shared an article about a 400 (one of the first small ones, I think) in NC that was standing in two feet of water after the storm...

Re: ThinkPad predicament
sgkean, it's a Type 2373-7FU (how ironic) and there is no optical drive. When I first glanced at the thing (you can't really call a laptop a "box" can you? Never really thought about a pronoun for portable computers. There you go, PC! Oh, $@#&!, that's already taken!) I thought it had ...

ThinkPad predicament
I think(pad) I already know the answer to this but I'm not the brightest bulb in the box on a good day. This has not been a good day at all. My neighbor comes across these wonderful deals that turn out to be monstrous piles of dog poo. Case in point, this ThinkPad, that he got for free. He asked me ...

Just wondering
This occurred to me while I was working on that Dell desktop that was hosed up with Babylon. I thought it unusual that I didn't have to download any drivers for Windows 7 given the fact that the machine is a Dell. It's been a while, but in my experience when you install a "straight" copy o...

Re: SATA-to-USB adapters
I know IDE is rapidly going the way of the Dodo but it'd be nice to have given some of the PCs I wind up working on. Glad you mentioned 2.5" drives because I just flat out didn't even think about them. Thank God the one I'm looking at handles them. While I don't do a LOT of repairs, about 40% a...

Re: SATA-to-USB adapters
That's been my experience with Babylon, too, until now. "B/babylon" and every combination with * I could think of yielded nothing, yet whenever I opened a new tab in IE or FF it appeared to be a standard Google search page but the page title was "Babylon Search". Even when I pres...
