Does it work any better than the average heat sink w/fan?

Re: Halo 2 crash on loading
Is halo 1 and 2 not same graph ? I don't understand this question. What are you referring to? Graphics?? If so, I'm speculating but I'll say no they are not using the same graphics engine. Or at least not the same version of it. ??? On my system, H2 looks much better than H1. H1 is only using 100MB...

Re: Halo 2 crash on loading
Unfortunately, I can't offer any help. But if you get H2 to run to a playable level on that laptop, I'd be REALLY impressed. I run Raptor hard drives and they grind like hell when going into the game. After the game launches and is sitting at the first screen, it's using right at 500MB of RAM. (I du...

Re: Favorite FPS
Nobody has mentioned Duke Nukem 3D???? Surely I'm not the only one here old enough to have played it! lol When i started playing the first release of Unreal, the graphics totally blew away Duke! But for some reason, Unreal just never "grabbed" me. I played Unreal, then Unreal Tournament, t...

Re: dual boot
Downloaded the ISO file and ran the latest Ubutu from the LiveCD for a while. Immediately upon booting, all the nightmarish memories from previous installs of trying to get hardware & necessary software to run came flooding back. (Strike 1) Right away I noticed that the drive attached to the Mar...

Re: DX10 OS??
I have discovered that if you do a lot of service work on other people's machines, Vista can be a major PIA. Example being if you connect someone else's HDD via USB to your machine running Vista in order to recover files. Vista is much more "ownership" aware. It knows that the files you're...

Re: dual boot
Thanks for the info Dan.
I haven't looked at Linux since Ubuntu 6.06 LTS first came out.
I acutally prefer the KDE desktop so I ran Kubuntu.
Thought I might have another look to see what they've done to it.

Re: Xfire
You're referring to the gaming chat right? If so, turn on UPNP in the router and make sure you have the latest version of Xfire. Go to the "Files" tab and expand the flyout on the right. The automatic router config is at the bottom of the flyout. More help here: http://www.xfire.com/nat_ty...

Re: dual boot
GRUB will try and take over. Are all your installs on one drive? I had problems with RAID and a second drive OS installs and grub. Dan No. Each OS will be on it's own drive. Seems like I did this once before long ago and it worked fine. What I'm concerned with is if in the future, I want to discont...

Re: dual boot
Yes , you'll have the option "during" boot up to pick the os you want to run . If you miss the option , then Vista will load ; but by default you'll have 30 seconds to make your choice . Most people install XP first then Vista , and you can actully install Vista from XP (no need to boot f...

nTune?
Have any of you used the Tune System feature? I have my FSB oc'ed through the BIOS. I assumed at first that the Tune System feature would alter only the settings for the video card. When I told it to go ahead and run the tests, I noticed that it was looking at my MOBO settings as well. I stopped the...

Front Audio Ports??
Bad Axe 2 Anyone been able to use the front ports? According to what I've been able to find out, here and around the web, it's due to the fact that the board only supports HD audio output and the ports are wired for AC '97 output. Is that it? What can be done about it? I need it to run my headphones...

Hello to all
Been lurking for a while now. Figured I'd go ahead and join so I could pick your brains, or maybe even offer some help sometime. I've been a self employed "computer dude" for about 8 years now. I mainly support small business networks and a few home users. RARELY do I build custom stuff fo...
