Re: <3 Western Digital!!!

Just had a WD 160Gb die on me this weekend. :( Too bad it wasn't still under warranty. The Dell GX-280 will have to wait for a donor from someplace. Glad to hear of your success with WD. =D> I was once a fanboy of WD since 1985 until 2003. From that last point in time, my WDs were dying all too ofte...

Re: Austin Airport has USB 2.0 Ports!!

Nashville Airport has them too. What I do like is the docking station bar at the SouthWest terminals in Charlotte. It's like a juice bar, but laptops, cell phones and other devices can dock, be used or charged. The bar stools are comfy too. The next time I'm through there, I'll try to remember to sn...

Re: Legit Reviews Highway Cleaning on March 28th, 2009

That's one strange segment of highway to keep clean. If the GM plant were to go on strike and picket the facility, that highway afterward will need some heavy duty cleaning. I've seen how the road ways get during a picketing. Styrofoam cups, donut boxes, pop cans, and newspapers litter the a...

Re: watercooling prep

If there is no immediate solution, you could always go to the hardware store and grab some SS stand-offs or order them through McMaster-Carr or Grainger. It's always good to have a set of digital calipers for measuring things in millimeters. :) I've been a DIY WCing guy for years; Putting kits and h...

Re: Newegg Suspends $50 Gift Cards?

typically I have one debit card tied to a checking account I use exclusively for online purchases. When I am ready to buy I transfer funds to cover the purchase. Exactly! And what's more important is that the card is from another bank or service that has no ties to your main banking accounts what s...

Never had a damaged package shipped from the Egg before, but for some reason, the Egg has never beat 5-days getting stuff out to me. They have always been the slow ones over the years. Directron has been quicker.

Re: how many cores to fold on

Here I thought it was an NVidia Tesla folding by McFolden. McFolden averages 259,202 points/24hrs. "...Nvidia founded Team “Whoopass”, which consists only of several computers that are running the Folding@Home GPU client. Even with just 4-5 test machines, the team quickly moved into the top 5% ...

Nate, that's a great find for the video. After it played, the list showed another video on how they set everything up. VERY COOL!

Re: Phenom II X3 710 ---> 4 Cores

Not sure what part of the articles I liked best? The part to unlock an X3 to an X4 or the comments translated below the article. If the unlocking provides a stable X4 that works with less thermal heat build up, then it may be nice to try. Not full sure if AMD turned off one core due to heat co...

Re: Construction signs warn of zombies

The way it was hacked did not put the workers in danger.

Actually, if I saw it on a morning commute it would have stirred me up more to pay attention to the workers safety.

Still a good chuckle or a wide smile grin if it happened in my area.

Re: PC makes hissing sound under load...

My MSI LGA-775 board died at the end of last year. The caps were hissing for a few months while under load doing F@H for weeks on end. While away, my son mentioned that the hissing stopped suddenly one night and in moments he heard a big pop. Next, a burning electrical smell filled the room. My son ...

Re: A cardboard case for greener computer building

I don't think cardboard would be sturdy enough to hold my motherboard up with the weight of a TRUE 120 on it. Not to mention the risk of fire... 4870s run pretty hot... Unless your case temp is kicking over 400 deg I think you'll be just fine. Otherwise pizzas would cause their boxes to burst into ...
