It is, if you need 64-bit and gaming on the same computer, go with Vista.

Re: Best OS for Gaming

damn bro, what games are you using that needs over 4gb ram? Single games? None, but it's nice having 2GB worth of programs open, and being able to launch a game without worrying about ram usage. And some new games (The Witcher, Supreme Commander) are hitting up against the 2GB ram limit per program...

Re: XP x64 and raid

You need to set up the array first in the BIOS, before you install anything to it, you did that, right? Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if drivers for XP X64 were missing in any case, I had never ending problems when I used it, Vista 64-bit (and 64-bit flavours of Linux) have better hardware suppo...

Re: Best OS for Gaming

I could have swore I already responded to this thread...

In any case, my vote goes to any 64-bit version of Vista, 32-bit systems don't support enough memory, and XP x64 has awful software and hardware support.

Is it a legit copy of Windows?

If so, it should be providing a phone number, or some kind of contact for MS, that you should be able to use to have them resolve the problem for you.

Re: Vista or keep using XP Home Edition?

For a new computer, Vista, no question.

If you've already got XP, and it's working fine for you, no point in buying Vista and having your XP license go to waste.

Re: Xbox 360 controller for Win XPSp1 and Vista?

I recently picked up a wireless 360 controller with reciever for $50, and am loving it.

I wouldn't play FPS games with it, but currenly playing through Jade Empire, and it's great.

Re: Gaming in XP/Vista/32/64

I have no practical experience with Vista at all. I won't even bother with it until the bugs are worked out and SP1 is released. Sadly support for XP x64 and Vista x64 has been mediocre at best. Some of the major hardware players have outright refused to produce drivers for it. Others have produced...

Only the 64-bit version of Windows Server 2003 will. In which case, you might as well run Vista 64-bit, since neither Server 2003 nor XP 64-bit (based off of Server 2003, rather than XP) have extensive hardware/software support.

Re: Vista Page File: Special Case

If you want the fastest possible performance, you should partiton off the first 20% of the drive (I can't remember if it is a much as 20% but its around there) and use it for your OS and swap, (and maybe games etc), as this partition will be on the part of the drive that spins fastest so will have ...

Your first time snowboarding will suck, it does for everybody.

Not really something worth taking up if you're only going to go out once or twice per year, you're better off skiing if you hit the slopes at that frequency.

System managed on every drive, Windows does a good job of using the fastest drive depending on what else is using the drive at the time, automatically.

Re: Skiing and Snowboarding just around the bend

Snowboarding is my life in the wintertime. Flying out to Jasper to hit Marmot Basin with some friends on the 14th, after my last exam. They've been open since November 16th, hopefully they get some more powder while I'm there. Vertical drop of 914 m and 678 hectares of area make it by far the bigges...

Silent computers are nice, I've grown to hate the noise of fans over the years. My web server is nearly totally silent, not even a fan on the CPU or PSU, only noise is the hard drive.

Vista 64 bit all the way, it's a better OS, with better compatibility. I can think of almost no reasons for anyone to be using XP Pro x64.

Re: 64bit ... 32 bit ... vista/xp, mind exploding!

Go ahead and dual boot like everyone is recommending, you've got nothing to lose from it. I was running on a dual-boot setup for a while, until I realized I hadn't booted into XP in over a month, so I deleted my XP partition a while ago, no problems with Vista 64-bit now. I've had issues with vista ...

For the same price, for most games, a Duo will be better.

In a couple years, the quad will be better than the duo if you bought either at the present.

wow... A weak US dollar means outher countries and companies will buy up our stuff when the dollar is low... Which in turn pushes the dollar back up. I've got a good friend from Abu Dhabi (well, Dubai, but he lived in Abu Dhabi when he was younger), I'll have to mention this to him to see what he t...

I've actually read every single quote on both bash.org and qdb.us.

Took me a few months when I was in highschool, every day I'd get home, make some food, and settle down to read some quotes.

It made me feel like a real loser. :P
