I can tell you to do what I did, which was to shop around at used furniture stores to see what they have. I got mine, metal with a glass top, for $30. It's about 4 feet tall, 5-6 feet wide, and has a built in keyboard tray. My giant server case can't fit under it, but...

My dad's computer has a sata drive as a boot drive and a ata drive for data, both internal. They seem to work fine, although the mobo is having fits right now because of something.

Well at least THAT problem is figured out. You'll have more, probably, though. :) I'm always here to help with lappie repair. A universal adapter would be better IMHO, because there's a chance it could work for another laptop down the road. I'm assuming you took the dremel to the adapter? Because, t...

Mine's done that blinky light thing twice, dunno if it's the same problem though. The batteries were completely drained, I plugged it in, but it wouldn't start. It needed like 30 seconds to get power flowing to start. Other than that, I'd say find a service manual online and take it apart, then put ...

As long as it's got at least 400 mhz, it should be fine. My old PII 400 did passably on movies.

At least I can play SNES games on my fossil.

edit: Btw, XP should run on it if you want, it runs on mine.

Sort of. :)

Finally, someone I can give advice too! I got a Compaq Armada 1700 from a friend for $20 bucks. Screen was broken, power cord and fan were missing, and a new motherboard was needed, as a capacitor had been broken off. It runs fine now, with a PII 266 and 288 mb of ram and 4.3 gig hard driv...

And unless they've stopped doing it, mobos also come with IDE cables for older harddrives and optical drives.

Personally, I'd go with Corsair ValueSelect. I've had really good results with them in the past, and you get quality and budget in the same deal!

But that's just my opinion. Corsair's my favorite memory brand, all three computers I have built recently have their sticks.

Definitely what he said. The mobo has nothing to do with monitors, unless it has onboard video. And you'd be out of dual monitors in that case.

I'd get a single core lower end Athlon 64 for now, and then upgrade to an X2 later. All on the Socket AM2, of course, which means DDR2 memory. But's that's assuming you definitely want AMD. The new Conroes from Intel are worth looking into. Someone else correct me if I'm wrong, but you can get a Con...

Since I'm the kind of person that doesn't get something for $300 unless it doubles or triples my experience, I don't think I'll bite. Unless I find one on eBay for $10, then I might be curious. :P

So it is a good resolution for stuff? I was kinda afraid of being limited to only 900 pixels high, but it looks like all but one 19" widescreens at Newegg have the exact same max resolution, and the one is two monitors on one stand. Yeah, I think you've convinced me to do it. :P (Now for money ...

need monitor advice

My Dad just purchased this monitor (but not from there) since his old Compaq CRT decided to go yellow on him (yes, everything had a heavy yellow tint.) The best part is, he got it for $150 at Sam's Club, compared to the $250-$280 I've seen online. The question I have, is that would this moni...

Websense is what my workplace uses to keep all of us lazy slackers in line. It blocks by categories though, so it might not work for you for what you want exactly. And I think you have to pay for it.

Try lookin' at thebestcasescenario.com, I've found out a lot of info there. Even if they don't have a tutorial, you could probably find out by reading worklogs of modding projects.

In Star Wars, the three prequel episodes, there is a blue alien bureacrat (sp...) that kinda has head fins that taper into tusks that drape over his shoulders. And yeah, that reminded me of him. :P
