Re: Intel VT-x and VT-d for app development

You don't need VT-d, but it can provide for a more stable and better performing setup; think heavily loaded esx servers running multiple vm's VT-d allows the vm to have direct i/o access (if you want it to, or no access) (i/o = hdd, lan, snd card, usb, GFX etc) The hypervisor can and does do this in...

Re: My mad experiment

If Mike's suggestion doesn't work, try linux.
It has better hardware support and since you have the time; it's something new to tinker with ;-)

Re: Router's ALG Config Settings

ALG - Application Level Gateway PPTP - Point to Point VPN = disable no problem IPSec (VPN) - Client VPN - disable no problem SIP - VoIP - disable no problem Disabling the above will not mean you can't have VoIP or a VPN, it just makes it harder to setup. The ALG is to allow this traffic to passthrou...

Simple: If you want to connect to two different networks If you want the reduncancy of two network links If you want link aggregation, ieee 802.xx - this way you could have a 2GBps connection to another network device or client A seperate network link to your NAS/SAN storage To run your PC as a gate...

Re: Just wondering

It's also down to the fact that there's less components. A few years ago you had Via, SIS, Nvidia, ATI & Intel chip sets. The same for sound cards and NIC's I've found that you get 90% + of drivers with the initial install and only have to run Windows update to get drivers for the obscure HW. ev...

Re: Will North Korea Attack Anyone?

Nothing will happen. They don't have the ability to hit the US mainland and won't dare to touch Guam or Hawaii.
South Korea will also be fine.

They are just all talk.

Re: DNS Resolver IPs: Use ISP supplied, or a service?

Most of the time changing dns doesn't help much as your isp will be monitoring their dns infrastructure closely. Adding secondary & tertiary servers for resilience is a good idea. Using an adblocker is better as some people think tweaking dns helps pages load due to ads on sites. It's the 3rd pa...

Re: New Rosewill L600N Router/CHARTER Driving Me Bats**t Cra

Let's hope it's sorted, but you can't blame charter too much. You're what we call a fringe case. It's not the norm and not getting the latest cisco firmware is common. They have to test each release and tweak it for their network; this takes time.

I liked reading the reviews. The site layout also makes it easy on the eyes too and and I find this important for any website. I used to read the forum posts so I could learn the basics of overclocking and I noticed how there was no BS. This was back in 2005 and I've been dropping by ever since; alt...

Re: Raid drive back to normal drive help needed

I'm not certain, but you could delete the mbr & partition table.
I only know the Linux way though.

Code: Select all

 sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdX bs=512 count=1
(replace X with the letter you drive is assigned)
