The E2180 is pretty good bang for buck, it's 65nm and runs decently warm, starts out at 2Ghz but within 30 minutes I had it up to 2.8 and it looks like it has more headroom for clocking. Picked it up for under $70 bucks for a backup machine couldn't be happier with the budget processor.

I've run the Kill A Watt on my q6600 and X2 6400 I was surprised to find out that at idle they both took about the same, mid 170s range idle. Jumped to 273 on the Quad and and X2 6400 under load.

What I'm wondering is how does wall pull equate to PSU output.

I use water on my Q6600, but when I'm testing I generally use a TRUE 120 with a high CFM low noise fan. Generally runs about 40c Idle in the TT Armor case. Depending on case air flow it should run close to that.

If you go with 4 Gig of ram you'll need to use a 64 bit operating system. You can use 4 gig in Vista or XP 32 bit but you won't be able to use all of it.

It's better to have 2 sticks of 2 gig each than 4 sticks of 1 gig each. 4 sticks makes it harder on the memory controller and doesn't OC as well.

I second the Core Temp and CPUID HWMonitor they always seem to match and are more reliable than the rest I've tried.

Most of the screw isles in the hardware stores have thread guides, take the old screw and screw it into the guides and when you find the guide that fits you'll know you have the right thread pinned down. Did you pop the new Q6600 into the same board you were using the Dual core on? That might be why. Or it's just a glitch you've already corrected so I'd just enjoy some Quad goodness and call it a day.

I would imagine that following along the lines that it's legal to make a backup copy of a DVD you own, making a backup copy of a song you own would also be legal.

Of course their would be other uses of the software that do fall in the Grey area.
