Re: Just wondering what Intel CPU
The E2180 is pretty good bang for buck, it's 65nm and runs decently warm, starts out at 2Ghz but within 30 minutes I had it up to 2.8 and it looks like it has more headroom for clocking. Picked it up for under $70 bucks for a backup machine couldn't be happier with the budget processor.

Re: power consumption of my x3360 (kill-a-watt)
I've run the Kill A Watt on my q6600 and X2 6400 I was surprised to find out that at idle they both took about the same, mid 170s range idle. Jumped to 273 on the Quad and and X2 6400 under load.
What I'm wondering is how does wall pull equate to PSU output.

Re: And finally.... My system has arrived...
I've got the Thermaltake Armor (and two of their other cases), the Armor's 120mm and 90mm should be fine on one Molex, they don't put out a large volume of air and are more designed for silence. The 250mm side fan I'd run on it's own molex just to keep the lead from stretching across the case but yo...

Re: Close Call!
I use water on my Q6600, but when I'm testing I generally use a TRUE 120 with a high CFM low noise fan. Generally runs about 40c Idle in the TT Armor case. Depending on case air flow it should run close to that.

Re: Need help choosing CPU and Motherboard for decent gaming rig
If you go with 4 Gig of ram you'll need to use a 64 bit operating system. You can use 4 gig in Vista or XP 32 bit but you won't be able to use all of it.
It's better to have 2 sticks of 2 gig each than 4 sticks of 1 gig each. 4 sticks makes it harder on the memory controller and doesn't OC as well.

Thermaltake just put out a new setup with the same old pump. I got a press notice on it an hour or so ago. It's called the ProWater 850i PR, here's the link:

I've been making them bring the computers to me to fix instead of going to them. If I have to go to them, well a guys gotta pass on rising costs.

Not that I've ever done this but: Shipped to a Stateside friend, wrapped in gift wrapping with a card is what I hear from my overseas friends I remail for.
Then I hear a couple of the custom shippers are customs cleared.

Re: Intel Says Upgrading a GPU has no benefit
Using (manipulating) graphs, numbers, charts you can make any thing look advantageous. Look advantageous being the key phrase. That's pretty much what marketing is all about. Throw up a graph of gaming on a CPU and a GPU and you'll get exactly the opposite showing. Any computer builder worth his sal...

Re: Looks Like Intel Is Locking LGA 1160 Mainstreams
I hope Fudzilla is wrong, after 10 years of struggling to get 300Mhz more out of AMDs then have Intel yank the good OC capabilities I've come to enjoy that just wouldn't be right.
I'm probably getting a faster FSB chip 45nm type this year, but instead of selling the q6600 I might shelf it.

Looks Like Intel Is Locking LGA 1160 Mainstreams
Looks like info on the LGA 1160 processors being locked is starting to leak. Source: http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=7255&Itemid=1 No easy workaround As we told you some time ago, Intel has put in what can only be called an overclocking lock in the upcom...

I was sitting on the back porch having coffee and browsing the forum. My lawn saw Apotosis lawn and I'm pretty sure mines on strike now. Brown spots are starting to appear.

I second the Core Temp and CPUID HWMonitor they always seem to match and are more reliable than the rest I've tried.

Re: Q6600 running temp overclocked
The IHS (Integrated heat spreaders) on the q6600 aren't very flat, that accounts for the difference in core temps. I run mine OC to 3.2 on a P5KC Asus board and the temps run 7-9C cooler on cores 2 and 3 under a decent water setup. I took a laser level and set it for a horizontal line and ran it acr...

Re: Running External Drive 24/7
If you can feel is vibrating after like 30 minutes of inactivity turn it off. I use a Tagan Icy Box IB390 has an off switch in the back. I generally keep it off unless I need it, it spins down but it's got my OP Sys backup on it. If I get hit by a bad virus and it's on that might not be good. For da...

Re: All This Rain Has My Yard Looking Kick Ass
I'm pretty sure my lawn used to be a cow field, more scrub than grass. So far no amount of Scotts Turf builder, fertilizer, or herbicide has been able to whip it. Might be partially due to sitting on almost solid rock. I even took an old drill to the Dandelions tubers and got most of them. Now the n...

Congrats on the Q6600 I think your gonna like it! I love mine, I might only get the full of 2 cores right now but at 3.2 it's still an awesome speed. Enjoy!

Re: case screw(up)
Most of the screw isles in the hardware stores have thread guides, take the old screw and screw it into the guides and when you find the guide that fits you'll know you have the right thread pinned down. I'd pick up the ones you think you need, then 3 slightly longer ones with nuts in case you need ...

Re: Dumb Noob question about Q6600
Did you pop the new Q6600 into the same board you were using the Dual core on? That might be why. Or it's just a glitch you've already corrected so I'd just enjoy some Quad goodness and call it a day.

Re: How to remove DRM protection of iTunes m4p songs and wma
I would imagine that following along the lines that it's legal to make a backup copy of a DVD you own, making a backup copy of a song you own would also be legal.
Of course their would be other uses of the software that do fall in the Grey area.
