Proposed X-mas Holiday E-350 HTPC or FM1-based system

 So, with X-mas coming around the corner, I decided to build a new PC to replace the aging eMachines system with and LGA 478 P4 3.0GHz, 2GB RAM DDR400, Radeon 9250 PCI (yes, the Mobo only has PCI slots) that my parents use for web browsing and watching HD movies hooked up to my 46" Sony......

Re: Kingston 128GB SSD SNV425??

Yeah I asked him to do some tests and show them to me. The newEgg sale looks really good but sadly, I live in Canada...do you know if the promo/discounts work on newegg Canada? I could get a family or friend who live in the states to get it for me but it could be a hassle. Usually ssd's are quite ex...

Re: Over clocking socket 775

The safest and best tool to overclock is NOT with software, but through the good old BIOS. You are correct, overclocking isn't as simple as adjusting the bus frequency and adding some core voltage - you need to adjust things for the RAM, motherboard chipsets (north bridge, south bridge, etc), the HT...

Kingston 128GB SSD SNV425??

So a classmate of mine that is in my engineering program is selling his 128GB Kingston SSD for $100 and I'm interested in buying it off of him. I asked him if it's the svn425-s2 but he wasn't sure off the top of his head. If it is than its the one LR reviewed last year. :) Anyways I'm asking for som...

Re: OC'ing Athlon II X4 620 (2.6GHz)

I have an HP p6214y and when I go to the BIOS>Advanced settings, there are no options for overclocking or anything. Is there a tool or software to do it? Also, I have a question with unlocking L3 caching on this CPU like this. How do I do it if the CPU name is not selectable in the BIOS advanced se...

Re: 6950 dead after updating to 11.9 drivers?

I agree wtih XstollieX, no way two cards die within six months like that. I'm suspecting the power supply CAN most likely be the issue - might want to do some testing to make sure the voltages (for the +12v, etc) are stable and does not spike or dip too much. Thermaltake Power supplies are usually p...

Re: Single slot crossfireX card

The reason for not wanting DiplsyPort is simply that I am pissy and dont like adapters... I may have to just get over it. The reason for crossfire support is that I know I will need 2 cards for the 6 monitors, but would like the ability when I need it to run off of one GPU... Its just to make sure ...

Re: Single slot crossfireX card

I intend to drive multiple monitors, up to 6. And some gaming... or at least the ability to. I am not looking for a top of the line card, just a good multipurpose card. But it has to be crosfireX or SLI compatible, and low profile... Also, I live in the US, but location is not an issue. You can by ...

Re: MSI 9650 Twin Frozr 2 matches?

Shouldn't have a problem; you can Crossfire with other brands' cards too.
Keep in mind:
- If you have a 2GB 6950 and put a 1GB 6950 in, the 2GB card will disable 1/2 of its VRAM to match the 1GB card.
- You can only Crossfire cards from the Same family (but I think you already know that :) )

Re: GTX 550 TI? should I go for it?

A GTX 285 is a decent card, but with the newer technology like: DX11, multi-monitor support, LOWER power usage (= lower temperatures = less heat), you might want to think about it. New cards are also faster. The Radeon HD 6850 is JUST a little bit slower than the Radeon HD 5850...or faster/identical...

Re: GTX 550 TI? should I go for it?

If you took at the performances of the radeon HD 5770, it's very similar to the 4870. In fact, the 5770 is basically a HD 4870 with lower power consumption & DX11 support. Look: http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-5770-review-test/14 A Radeon HD 4850 -> 4870 isn't a large performance increas...

Re: 6950 vs 6870

Two Radeon HD 4870's perform a little better than a single HD 5870. A HD 5870 is 5%-10% faster or almost identical to the HD 6870. A single Radeon HD 6950 is about 10% faster than a sinlge HD 5870. Overall, a single 6870 is approximately as fast as your two Radeon HD 6870's; if it's faster, it won't...
