Re: Algae: 'The ultimate in renewable energy'

I went to the companies website and read more about it. Once they dry the alage and extract the oil (using supersaturated CO2) whats left is a 25%protien, 25% high quality carbohyrate meal prefect for animal feed or even to suplement human diets. this whole system has alot of potential. it will be i...

Re: Algae: 'The ultimate in renewable energy'

Too bad it's patented, which might hinder the speed of how this new energy is researched I don't think so. almost all new technology is patented, what this company plans to sell is licenses to use it, so they only make money if many other companies are willing to invest, build, and operate these al...

Re: Algae: 'The ultimate in renewable energy'

This will be the best choice of any of the bio-fuels, why waste huge areas of food cropland to make very little net energy, when you can harvest the sunlight energy via alage in a relitively small space and still grow fairly cheap food too.

Re: Oil prices blow past $134

Oil is at $134 a barrel right now and is said to hit $150 by July 4th... Seems like five things are impacting the oil price in the past 48 hours.... 1) Too many people are hedging oil 2) Nigeria threatened to strike 3) Asia is taking an unprecedented share 4) The dollar fell against the euro (1% in...

Re: Ack what did I do?

both the drive and the MB need to support hot swap, and be set to use it (disables write cache and a few other things). It's never a good idea to remove a running drive. I'd try the bios to disable that port, then re-enable it (load drivers if needed) Then re attach the drive "cold" and tr...

Re: GM to close 4 truck plants due to high fuel cost.

I saw a local news story about a car dealership here that was getting truck tradeins on trucks just 4/6/8 months old, as people realise they don't need the big truck 99% of the time and now want a smaller car. Great time to buy a truck (either new or slightly used) if you need one. Many available be...

Paid $4.17 (point 9) for regular today, cheaper then the $4.20 across the street, or the $4.31 (what the hell are these guys smoking?) I drove by.

Doesn't toe jam have all the components of life? (slimey fuzz, infectous bacteria, bad smells)

Re: apartment was robbed!!

Also record serial #s and etch your drivers liecense # on the items (police dept. can give you details, stickers, etc.)
much better chance of recovery and PROSECUTION of the perps, if they are caught.

Re: apartment was robbed!!

One thing about the insurance, be sure to get specific riders for each piece of electronics gear..basic policies often don't cover some types of contents (electronics, jewelry, etc.) shouldn't be more than a few dollars more to have that coverage in writing. It's also worth paying the extra fee for &...

Re: apartment was robbed!!

Weird thing. Our locks were recently changed while we were at work, on Thursday. New locks to freshen up the area. That would make me suspious! Did your landlord do that? Did he tell you in advance? Why now? ( problems in the building?) I'f he used a locksmith, who was it? The truth is you probably...

I've always avoided auto updates from any company, unless it life threatening I hold off a week or to and watch for complaints/problems, same reason I hold off a year or so on O/S upgrades.

Re: Redbox credit card skimming

Yeah, We'd all notice cause we're geeks. The truth is most of the time we might notice, but we've become so used to swipe cards at six zillion places that it's kind of mindless, you don't thourghly examine each one everytime. worse I've seen parents (mostly busy mothers) give the kids a credit/debit...

If you pay someone to do your taxes, what do you pay? Zero! I got people..ME but when business was more complex, (partners) an actual CPA paid for himself many times over (I didn't want to waste days going down to explain things to the IRS) and yes i mean an actual $125+ an hour CPA, not just some ...

Hmm, methinks I should get a Kill-A-Watt to test power consumption during idle and standby for the PCs. It'll be kinda hard to cart around the BR1500LCD just to measure power drawn. An excellent idea to measure the MAXimum draw (you can also reserch each comonents spec and calculate the highest dra...

Re: UPS + surge

I'd go with the APC, in my experience Belkin greatly exadurates the abilities of some of their devices. 400 joules should be plenty (we're talking surge protection, not a lightning arrestor) I wouldn't stack the UPS behind a surge strip, especially a cheap one. Many cheap surge bars only partial pro...
